134 Staffers Eliminated At National Renewable Energy Lab In Golden, CO

A federal research lab formerly known as the National Renewable Energy Lab laid off more than 100 people this week. The lab, now called the National Lab of the Rockies, laid off 134 people, a spokesperson confirmed to The Hill Tuesday.

“The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) implemented workforce actions affecting 134 employees across the laboratory, including roles in both research and operations,” said spokesperson David Glickson in an emailed statement.

“These actions were taken to adjust to existing and projected funding levels and alignment with DOE priorities. We recognize the meaningful contributions of those impacted and the role they have played in advancing the laboratory’s work,” Glickson said.

Reached for comment, the Department of Energy, which houses the nation’s national labs, shared a nearly identical statement.
