un report warns of widening climate gap

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/EU_UN_CLIMATE?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-11-21-05-25-41

STOCKHOLM (AP) -- A U.N. report on rising greenhouse gas emissions reminded world governments Wednesday that their efforts to fight climate change are far from enough to meet their stated goal of limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit).

The report by the U.N. Environment Program, released just days ahead of a major climate conference, said the concentration of heat-trapping greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is up about 20 percent since 2000.

Scientists say those emissions are contributing to climate change and that failure to contain them could have dangerous consequences, including rising sea levels inundating coastal cities, dramatic shifts in rainfall disrupting agriculture and drinking water, the spread of diseases and the extinction of species.

Emissions levels, driven by the burning of fossil fuels, need to come down by 14 percent by 2020 for the world to reach a pathway that could keep the global temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius, compared with pre-industrial levels, UNEP said. That's the stated goal of U.N. climate negotiations, which resume next week in Doha, Qatar.

To think that these jerks are describing this as "a major climate conference" when they've
seen exactly what those kinds of obstructionist morons have achieved in all of the predecessor
talking-shops over years ...

The best outcome that such a gathering could produce would be if a massive fuel-air bomb
went off and took out all the reps from the US, China, India & OPEC states.

Sadly, life isn't fair like that so all that will happen is that the media will do its annual
"gosh, let's mention the climate" spiel and we'll be fed more bollocks about how plans
will be discussed at the next meeting as they recognise that it is becoming a
really serious issue so they'd better talk about doing something real soon now ...

my favorite saying since the late nineties. "The more I learn, the less I want to know."

Computers give us access to universal information, then depress us with bald reality.

Hope, soon turns into just another four letter word.
