Pardon my French, but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.
The climate change debate has deniers on both sides, Sen. Joe Manchin said Tuesday. Deniers include people who dont think the climate is changing, the West Virginia Democrat who famously shot the cap and trade bill during a campaign commercial said during POLITICOs Great Energy Debate panel discussion in Washington. But activists and liberal lawmakers who suggest that the country can quickly move away from fossil fuels are also in denial, he said.
There are deniers on both sides, Manchin said. On my side, theres people who say, Oh, the climate is not a problem. Well, let me tell you, 7 billion people, we have an impact on the climate and we have a responsibility. And if you dont think so, youre a denier.
But he also criticized climate advocates like Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), who has made dozens of speeches on the Senate floor in favor of taking stringent action on the issue.
I said, Sheldon, youre a denier, Manchin recalled telling his Democratic colleague, adding, If you believe that we can continue to run this country and this economy without any fossil [fuels] or any coal if you do, then youre a denier.

He said this: If you believe that we can continue to run this country and this economy without any fossil or any coal if you do, then youre a denier.
It would have been more accurate (though not as good rhetoric) if he'd said this: If you believe that we can continue to run this country and this economy without any fossil or any coal if you do, then youre delusional.

(21,024 posts)the whole damned human race is in denial. I know what's coming yet I still drive, kick the heat on when it's cold and eat an occasional burger. We're all complicit. As Milo Minderbinder would say, everybody has a share.
