Related: About this forumMonsanto's Glyphosate Found in California Wines, Even Wines Made With Organic Grapes
http://readersupportednews.org/news-section2/318-66/35998-monsantos-glyphosate-found-in-california-wines-even-wines-made-with-organic-grapesShortly after the release of a report showing 14 beers testing positive for glyphosate in Germany, a concerned supporter of Moms Across America approached me at a convention with disturbing news. He said he had test results from Microbe Inotech Lab of St.Louis showing 10 different wines, from large and small vineyards, contained the chemical glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsantos Roundup weedkiller, including wine made with organic grapes.
The contamination of conventional wine was 28 times higher than organic wine, with levels ranging from 0.659 ppb in organic to 18.74 ppb in conventional wine.
The wines tested came from Napa Valley, Sonoma and Mendocino counties in California. The brand names of the wines were not revealed, and frankly, the brands are not the issue. The real issue is the widespread contamination of glyphosate based herbicides in consumer products.

(3,263 posts)doctors advise to watch your protein intake but it not just GMOs like corn that have glyphosate sprayed on them
big ag is using it to ensure no loss in non GMO crops see below so be careful about what carbs you are taking in GMO or not while cutting back on protein
it is on wheat peas lentils
GMO is not the issue with Monsanto anymore it goes much further

It's on plenty of products and why here in the USA ?

but not other places?

Extended U.S. Family members have kidney failure and I have been providing organic to my family so even actively avoiding it and then seeing reports like this are so disheartening but someone will be along here soon on this thread to discredit everything I just wrote but remember you are not alone. Take care

(36,827 posts)Let's just forget for a moment that this dubious site is channeling obviously bullshit mongers like Mom's Across America.
Let's forget that they are also channeling the widely discredited organic-shill Seralini.
Let's forget they are further channeling Monika Krüger who has to pay well known junk science purveyor OMICS to publish her nonsense.
Let's also forget that the European Food Safety Authority's commissioned study on the IARC's determination of glyphosate as a "probable carcinogenic" found it to be complete bullshit.
Let's forget that the lab used is the favorite of the organic industry shill, Henry Rowland, and evidently isn't certified for accuracy by anyone.
Let's also just go with the highest tested level out of all the samples tested (by far) of 18.74 PARTS-PER-BILLION and completely forget the EPA standard for drinking water is 700 PARTS-PER-BILLION.
The really, really, funny part is California wine typically contains 14-18% ethanol, which is listed by the IARC as definitely carcinogenic, as opposed to 18.74 PARTS-PER-BILLION of something the IARC says is probably carcinogenic (not).
In other words, the chemophobic bullshit mongers, Moms Across America, are actually worried about completely insignificant levels of a lesser "poison" contaminating significant levels of a much greater "poison".
You can't make shit up this funny.

I just hope the glyphosate doesn't clash with my roasted asparagus.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]Monsanto GMOs have been banned in Australia, but I can't find mention of glyphosate specifically. As of this month, New Zealand has not banned it and there are a number of articles pushing for a ban.

Are you guys down under taking note? Your export is under threat from a killer corporation.

(36,827 posts)Nearly 2 billion adults worldwide are estimated to consume alcoholic beverages regularly, with an average daily consumption of 13 g of ethanol (about one drink). Alcohol consumption has already been shown to cause cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, oesophagus, colorectum, liver and female breast; there is now also some evidence for cancer of the pancreas. The relative risk of breast cancer increases with increasing alcohol intake by about 10% per 10g/day.(3)

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]Just at first glance -
Ascorbic acid? That's vitamin C, you know.
Tannin? A very normal part of the grape that gives many wines their dry taste.
Activated charcoal? Used to purify drinking water and frequently taken by people with digestive problems.
Citric acid? The weak acid found in citrus fruits that gives them their sour tang.
I'd suggest looking up each item on that list to find out what it really is.
Not every food additive is a dangerous chemical, you know, and the Europeans are light years ahead of us in their caution.

(49,999 posts)People are screaming bloody murder over a virtually non-existant amount of glyphosate in their wine, yet could care less about all the other chemicals they ingest on a daily basis.
One of the main components in wine is ethanol. It's a poison. It's a carcinogen. It causes birth defects, liver damage etc. So people willingly drink something that is 12-16% poison, and then get all bent out of shape over the idea that their wine might have 0.000000018% of glyphosate which is already less dangerous than ethanol.
Major Nikon
(36,827 posts)France only banned glyphosate for residential use. So those who are deathly afraid of getting the equivalent of one drop of glyphosate in a swimming pool might be in for a rude awakening.
silverweb
(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]That "little bit" in wine is multiplied thousands of times over in virtually every other food we eat because of industry greed. GMO crops designed to be drowned in the stuff are purely because of industry greed and the desire to sell more of their poison. That's not harmless.
Ethanol in minimal quantities, like a glass of wine with dinner, has actual health benefits. Only when one drinks too regularly or in quantity is it poisonous - and that's a choice, not something forced upon a person by industry.
progressoid
(49,999 posts)If you drank 8 million glasses of wine, you would still have a lower dosage of glyphosate than the alcohol in a single glass of wine.
On a more realistic scale, if you drink just one glass of wine a day (that's supposed to be good for you right?), your arsenic levels will be 20 to 30 percent higher than those of people who didn't drink.
OOOOooooo
While we're on the topic of "unimportant things to be scared of", lets check out the pesticides you eat every day.
...estimated that on average Americans ingest roughly 5,000 to 10,000 different natural pesticides and their breakdown products. Americans eat about 1,500 mg of natural pesticides per person per day, which is about 10,000 times more than the 0.09 mg they consume of synthetic pesticide residues.
Even though only a small proportion of natural pesticides have been tested for carcinogenicity, 37 of the 71 tested are rodent carcinogens. Naturally occurring pesticides that are rodent carcinogens are ubiquitous in fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices.
Cooking foods produces about 2000 mg/person/day of burnt material that contains many rodent carcinogens and many mutagens. By contrast, the residues of 200 synthetic chemicals measured by FDA, primarily synthetic pesticides, thought to be of greatest importance, average only about 0.09 mg/person/day. In a single cup of coffee, the natural chemicals that are known rodent carcinogens are about equal in weight to a years worth of synthetic pesticide residues that are rodent carcinogens, even though only 3% of the natural chemicals in roasted coffee have been adequately tested for carcinogenicity. This does not mean that coffee or natural pesticides are dangerous, rather, it makes assumptions about high- dose animal cancer tests for assessing human risk at low doses need reexamination. No diet can be free of natural chemicals that are rodent carcinogens.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I don't drink wine, anyway, so it makes no difference to me personally. Other people do enjoy it, though, and it makes a difference to many of them.
As for myself, I'll continue to stick with organics in everything as much as possible. We're already swimming in the toxic mess that we've made of this beautiful planet, but I'm not going to voluntarily swallow the shit that's being dumped into it.

(49,999 posts)"Organic" doesn't preclude it from being sprayed with chemicals.
In addition to those chemicals (some which are synthetic), a number of organic farmers are even asking the federal government for permission to use more synthetic pesticides.
Among the dozens of public commenters on Monday were a potato grower who asked the board to approve a chemical to keep his stored spuds from sprouting; a maker of organic lecithin - lecithin is an emulsifier common in many foods - who wanted the board to close the loophole that allows synthetic lecithin; and an organic advocate from Vermont who, speaking for some strawberry farms, wanted the board to preserve the exception for ferric phosphate, a chemical used as a slug and snail bait.
