Free DIY mousetrap that works! i know cuz we caught our mouse with it this morning!

1. I caught a mouse in a bucket of water in the mudroom

and I didn't even know I had one...it was connected to the garage, and someone was sneaky...

I do have a question though (says one who uses snap traps). What do you do with the mouse? Also, what did you bait it with or did you bait it?

4. we took him out to the back of our acre and released him (tossed is more like it lol)

bait is a dab of peanut butter on the bottom (which becomes the top) of the glass so that mousie must reach up and be all the way inside the glass to get the goodies.

put the glass on a small piece of wood or solid cardboard so that you can flip the glass over and still have a cover on it so mousie won't jump out.

And yes, I had determined that it would be a good idea to put it on something solid. I wonder how far a mouse will travel. I used to trap and release, and kept getting mice. I never knew if it was the same danged mouse or several. Since using the snap traps, I realize that there are a lot of mice around me....but I still don't know if I had the same mouse coming back. Let us know if you have a return.

7. I wonder if you could tell if he returned by marking him. Maybe some type of dye dropped on him or

placed in the bottom of the glass, making his feet red.

I really do hate the snap traps, but I don't know how much I trust that released mice don't just come back into the house. I am going to look into what I could use to mark them. I love experiments.

Unfortunately, you'd need to release Mouse a good half mile away to make sure he didn't return. Remember, he knows how to get IN your house.

Most people wouldn't want to use my favorite anti-pest method which only works out in the country. I always encouraged people to let me know when they found non-poisonous snakes around, because I wanted to put them under my house. The snakes, not the people. If you're not afraid of snakes - I think a Rosey Boa is beautiful - you'll never have to worry. In the desert I had bunches of king snakes, which also kept the rattlers away.

But where I live now, even though the town's tiny and rural, in 8 years I haven't seen a single snake anywhere. They might be here, but I haven't found any.

10. i saw a snake this fall headed to under the house

but it's danged cold for a snake to be moving this time of year, overnight lows usually in the 20s

half a mile huh? i got a new trap so i might put it out after all and see if we get any more mousies. the new trap is perfect (according to the DH) to just set in the back of the pickup to take our lil pals for a ride
