High-speed rail is a proven, reliable concept that has provided reliable service over much of Europe and Asia literally for decades now. High speed rail could have been a thing here in the US, were it not for bureaucratic and political delays and the American Right’s reflex hostility to anything that benefits the common good and fails to enrich a few billionaires and their political factotums.

To show what is possible, the Mexicans (THE MEXICANS!!!) have recently opened a fast train NETWORK in the Yucatán and southern Mexico. This infrastructure DID NOT EXIST a decade ago, and is far superior to the slow, decrepit passenger rail service once offered by the old National Railways of Mexico.

We Gringos have the potential to build something like European high-speed rail or even the Mayan train except that we have the Republican Party and the “Conservative”/MAGA movement.
