Or on trees.

I will eat genetically engineered eggplants that grow veal inside them.

Frankly it surprised me. Still, we have to keep alive the understanding of how factory farms operate. I'm amazed by how many people I encounter who still think of blue skies and open grass fields when the word "farm" is mentioned. They have no idea where McFood or that plastic tray of meat covered in plastic wrap actually originated or how it is processed.

This is the Vegetarian, Vegan and Animal Rights group. Posting a poll here about meat eating makes as much sense as having a poll in the Atheists and Agnostics group about which deities one believes in.

On DU3 the Latest setup shows group posts, so we get drive-by posts from omnivores who haven't noticed which group they are posting to. This isn't a huge deal, but posting red meat (pardon the term) that draws them in to post stuff counter to the SOP for this group is counterproductive.

We don't need a poll to know that most DUers eat meat and have ideas about the use of animals that we'd disagree with. I'd just like that attitude toward animals kept out of the Veg group, because that attitude being expressed in other forums was the whole reason we got a group (DU's very first) in the first place.

... I had no idea that group posts were visible without visiting the group. I don't spend a lot of time on the home page. I'll keep that in mind in the future. Thank you!

You won't convert very many DU'ers into vegans with posts like the OP.

Having drawn some carnivores here, you might get a few to buy free-range chicken/eggs and grass-fed beef instead of the factory farm stuff if you try though.

No, really it is. Let us not discuss your thoughts of "conversion" of "very many DU'ers into vegans" because that's the side show.

Meat-eaters (your term) don't give a shit about animal rights. Animal welfare, maybe, but not animal rights. Your pat-on-the-head aside about getting "a few to buy" free-range and grass fed yada-yada bullshit aside.

Animal Rights goes beyond apologist weepings about what you stuff in your clueless fucking face.

And BTW, nobody here is trying to "convert" anyone. The Tofu Ghetto (hat tip to Leftymom) has been here a long, long time (hat tip to Elad).

With that, those that choose to make a conscious decision to lessen the suffering by moving towards more humane animal products always have my respect, for what it's worth, but if you ingest meat, I can't embrace an "animal rights" standpoint. But that's okay.

But with that, I won't suffer apologists gladly. Or if need be, we can go outside.

Acknowledge what goes on in factory farming. with for example the smart and gentle pigs in those gestation crates. and still buy the stuff to support that cruelty, and live in that state of denial, there is something missing in you that you need to find.

Well played.

Is it murder when you dig a carrot or a potato out of the ground, chop it and boil it?

Is it murder when you tease the yeast in bread and beer with starch, only to kill and consume it once it has flourished?

Is it murder when you scrub bacteria, and the bio-film they call home, from your teeth, only to drown them in medical toothpaste?

Is it murder when you poison a humble bacteria that wants nothing more than to feast on the salty-sweet juices in your open wound?
