ATHEX: No trade until next Tuesday at the earliest
By Anestis Dokas

The Athens stock market will be closed until next Tuesday morning, July 7, at the earliest, as the Capital Markets Commission decided on Monday that the bourse cannot open while the country’s banks are closed.

That means at least six sessions – this week and next Monday – will not take place while the country is at risk of a eurozone exit and transactions are restricted.

This is the ninth time that the Greek stock market has been forced to close during its 139-year history. The first time was when Nazi Germany invaded Athens in April 1941, while the last time was in 2008 due to a strike by staff at the bourse.
