Some Arab parties back Gantz to oust Netanyahu, but three Arab politicians refuse

Joint headline thanks to developments. 1st article:

Israeli elections: Arab parties back Gantz to oust Netanyahu

Israeli-Arab lawmakers have recommended that the former army chief Benny Gantz should become prime minister.

Last week's election put the incumbent leader Benjamin Netanyahu neck and neck with Mr Gantz, and the two are now vying to build a governing coalition.

The Joint List, the bloc of Arab parties that came in third, says it wants to oust Mr Netanyahu from power.

This is the first time since 1992 that an Arab political group has issued an endorsement for prime minister.

But:

Boost for Netanyahu as three Arab politicians refuse to back rival

Benjamin Netanyahu’s chances of being chosen to form Israel’s next government appear to have improved after three politicians from the country’s Arab minority made clear they would not endorse his rival.
...
Support from the Joint List, which won 13 seats in Tuesday’s polls and made the bloc the third-largest force in the 120-seat Knesset, put Gantz slightly in front of Netanyahu. He had 57 recommendations, two ahead of the incumbent prime minister.

However, Israel’s president Reuven Rivlin, who is tasked after an election with picking a candidate to form a government, said on Monday morning that three Arab politicians from the Palestinian nationalist Balad party had abstained.

He confirmed the recommendations from the Joint List would account for only 10 endorsements, putting Netanyahu ahead by one recommendation.
