France Expels Russian Diplomats--But Still Faces Criticism Of How It's Handled Russia

The banned diplomats act in “counter to our security interests,” the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs France said, and 35 diplomats will be expelled, according to Agence France-Presse, citing an anonymous source in the French foreign ministry.
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Maria Zakharova acknowledged the French expulsion and said Russia plans to respond accordingly, according to Russian state-run news agency RIA Novosti.
The move comes hours after similar bans from other European countries: Germany expelled 40 Russian diplomats from its Berlin embassy, citing suspected spy ties, while Lithuania expelled Russia’s ambassador to the country and called for its ambassador to return from Moscow.
