Related: About this forumDeath by a thousand cuts: Russia running out of airplane brakes.
https://m.dailykos.com/stories/2022/8/14/2116621/-Russian-pilots-told-to-go-easy-on-the-brakes-so-they-don-t-wear-outSeveral major russian airlines have issued memos to their pilots that they should no longer use the auto-brake system when landing and should instead start using tricks like reverse-thrust to slow the plane down, to be "more economic with airplane resources".
In other words:
Only use the brakes if you really have to. You're gonna wear them out and we don't have spares.
Things you cannot buy in Russia:
- white paper
- airbags for cars
- microchips for steering missiles
- airplane brakes

(14,492 posts)1. Putin's solutions....
1. Make all Russian runways twice as long.
2. To reduce gross weight, no luggage allowed and passengers must fly nude.
3. Make holes under passenger seats and apply people brakes. All passengers supplied with combat boots for each flight.
The way people drive in Russia, the airbag shortage might cost the most lives.....

(19,204 posts)3. Tires as well.
The typical airplane tire needs to be replaced or retreaded every 500 landings. All of Russia's trucks, mobile rocket launchers, and other military vehicles need tires as well.
Pretty soon Russian vehicles will be abandoned by the side of the road for lack of tires.
