Russia leaves 20,000 soldiers stranded in tactical withdrawal to the east

Russia has begun withdrawing troops across a key river to escape a Ukrainian counter offensive, Ukrainian officials claimed yesterday.

Vitaly Kim, the governor of Mykolayiv district, said the entire Russian command staff was retreating from the west bank of the Dnipro River that flows through the occupied city of Kherson in the southeast.

If confirmed, that would leave an estimated 20,000 or more Russian soldiers isolated from their commanders and cut off from supply lines by the half-mile-wide river, over which the main bridges in the Kherson region have been damaged by Ukrainian attacks.

“I feel just a bit sorry - but not much - for the stupid orcs who had been abandoned on the right bank of the Dnipro,” Mr. Kim said in a message posted to the Telegram social media app, using his favored derogatory term for Russian soldiers.

Wow what is that 5 or 10% of the total # of Russian troops on the ground in Ukraine?

Bridges were already suspect, so it looked they were setting themselves up to get trapped.

6. Those forces were "rushed" there from the east to keep Kherson from falling back into Ukrainian

Control. Now, not only do they not have supply lines, but the forces used to fight in the east- Donbas, and the north near Kharkiv are stretched very thin.

Ukrainian forces have played this out brilliantly

7. Poor guys are gonna get surrounded with no escape and than get pounded to shit by artillery.

If Ukraine can get air superiority over the area it's gonna be another situation like the
Falaise pocket in WW2... Lets hope they surrender..

10. This could go two ways . . .

It could result in a bloodbath or the Ukrainians could put them all in a POW lock down.

But the Russians do not care about these boys. They left their dead where they dropped and made no attempt to take their bodies home fot a proper burial. It sickened me (an old sailor) to see birds and animals scavenging the bodies.
