Pakistan rejects Taliban blame for use of its airspace for operations in Afghanistan
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry on Monday rejected the "deplorable" unsubstantiated accusations over the weekend by the Taliban of alleged U.S. use of Pakistani airspace in its counterterrorism operations in Afghanistan.
On Sunday, the Taliban's acting defense minister, Mullah Mohamad Yaqub, claimed that U.S. military drones were entering Afghanistan through Pakistani airspace.
"Pakistan, with deep concern, has taken note of the allegations of the acting defense minister of Afghanistan about the use of Pakistan's airspace during the anti-terrorist operation conducted with U.S. drones," begins a statement rebuking the Taliban for accusing without evidence.
"In the absence of evidence, as acknowledged by the Afghan minister himself, such conjectures are most unfortunate and defy the norms of a responsible diplomatic attitude. Pakistan reaffirms its belief in the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states and condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," he says.
