It's formidable chaos over there. It's basically impossible to tell what's going on. Things are evolving as you read this.

What we know so far:

1. Ukrainian military is blitzkrieging through undefended areas behind the russian frontline, encountering only minimal resistance.

2. The critical city of Kupiansk has been liberated, which will mean huge problems for the russian army to distribute supplies to their frontline-units.

3. Ukrainian military only talks about victories well after the fact when the fighting has already moved on. (OpSec reasons) On the other hand, the russian side is full with (not very detailed) social media posts about where fighting is happening right now. Russian soldiers report home to their friends and families and they post this info on social media.

4. The massive counter-offensive towards Kupiansk was alongside a smaller flank-attack from the south, threatening to encircle Izyum.

5. Russian social media is complaining that the russian soldiers in Izyum have retreated towards the East to escape encirclement between the north-south prong-attack by the Ukrainians.

6. The russian MoD has issued a statement that this retreat is all part of a bigger plan.
