Vlad Vexler makes a persuasive case that both Fats and Putin harken back to something even more anachronistic than dictatorship or even fascis,, that they are both divine right monarchists.

That will make things easier because humanity hasn't thought in those terms for a long time and is out of the habit. It will make things more difficult because humanity hasn't had to fight these particular demons for a very long time.
