Russia’s influence campaign in Africa is expanding at a rapid pace. As Wagner mercenaries push deeper into countries where France once held sway, the Kremlin is flooding African media with coordinated propaganda, conspiracy narratives and aggressive “anti-colonial” messaging designed to win hearts, minds — and access to minerals.
From Mali to the Central African Republic, Moscow is attempting to rewrite history: Wagner fighters are rebranded as “protectors”, while France is cast as the villain.
