Czech politics have entered a tense standoff. President Petr Pavel says he cannot nominate incoming Prime Minister Andrej Babiš until Babiš resolves a conflict of interest over his Agrofert conglomerate.

Babiš, however, insists he won’t sell the company until after he takes office, leaving the formation of a new coalition government in limbo. At the same time, several controversial ministerial nominees are raising fresh concerns about the country’s direction.
