Why Viktor Orban Is Internationalizing Hungary's Election - TVP WORLD

Stuart Dowell argues that Viktor Orbán has deliberately externalized Hungary’s election campaign by portraying Ukraine and the European Union as hostile forces trying to drag the country into war.

He says these unsubstantiated claims of foreign interference are a political strategy driven by Orbán’s declining support and the rise of challenger Péter Magyar, who leads in several independent opinion polls.

According to Dowell, the real source of Orbán’s vulnerability is the collapse of the social contract, caused by economic hardship, high inflation, failing public services, and corruption scandals that undermine Fidesz’s moral narrative.

Despite this, Orbán continues to benefit from an electoral system tilted in his favor, extensive media control, and the use of state resources, particularly in rural areas.
