‘State of Sinai’ claim hundreds of killings in Sinai attacks

‘State of Sinai’ claimed the most recent North Sinai attack that took place Thursday evening, targeting military and interior ministry facilities, in a Friday statement providing details about the implementation of the attack.

The attack targeted a number of security facilities in Al-Arish, Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah. According to the statement, “hundreds” were killed as a result of the attack, a claim refuted by a representative from the military spokesman press office who said “the numbers will not be announced”. However, he said the numbers reported by media outlets, which range between 20s and 30s, are closer to the real numbers.

State-owned Al-Ahram reported that “coordinated attacks in North Sinai left at least 30 dead”.

An Al-Arish resident told Daily News Egypt that among people living in Al-Arish the numbers of killings range between 100 and 200, pointing out however that nothing is has been announced.

Egypt's president has vowed to defend the Sinai peninsula in the 'face of terror' after an armed group linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for killing dozens of soldiers and civilians.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi made the declaration of Saturday two days after a string of attacks left 45 people dead.

"We will never leave Sinai," Sisi said. "Sinai is ours. Sinai will not seperate from Egypt unless all of us are killed."

In a veiled reference to the Muslim Brotherhood, Sisi blamed the now outlawed group for the fighting.
