Poor Netanyahu, the world has taken away his most beloved toy – the Iranian bomb

The spoke will soon be put in wheel of the Iranian bomb, and it will be ripped from the headlines and from our consciousness for at least the next dozen years or even more. And for Bibi, what will happen now?

By B. Michael

My heart goes out to Benjamin Netanyahu. With one cold, cruel stroke of the pen, the rulers of the world have taken away his most beloved toy – the apple of his eye and the joy of his heart, the rock of his existence and the source of his strength, and above all, the rock of his refuge and safe haven. Or in short, the Iranian bomb.

It seems as if this very day, or perhaps tomorrow, a spoke will be put in the wheel of the Iranian bomb, and it will be ripped from the headlines and from our consciousness for at least the next dozen years or even more. And for Bibi, what will happen now?

A discerning glance can already see the first signs of panic in him: repression, avoidance, a slight quiver in his hairdo, a stubborn insistence that nothing has happened and nothing has changed. But the terrible truth is taking shape. The bomb has gone. From now on, Netanyahu is like a baby that has lost its security blanket, or like one whose favorite teddy bear was thrown into the garbage – the one that warmed his heart during the long nights and infused him with calm and serenity during times of trouble and election campaigns.

In just another moment, the Prime Minister’s Bureau will be like a garden whose faithful scarecrow has been taken away – exposed to the piercing beak of gray reality, deprived of the daily annoyance of insects, stripped of a shield against the tribulations of his job and the botheration of boring routine. No more planning for a glorious commando operation; no more sowing of widespread, useful nuclear fears; no more fanning of heart-warming, blinding panic. No more Churchill! Heaven help us. Just housing, and the cost of living, and the budget, and the coalition, and corruption, and a whole world that insults and scorns and snipes at him.

It truly rends one’s heart.

Assuming that “we will not accept” does not include a military attack on Iran or the elimination of nuclear scientists on its territory — after it signed an agreement with the six major powers — the only way to carry out such a mission is to line up a large majority in the US Congress to override a presidential veto. There’s no secret which of the two American parties the prime minister favors. In the last US presidential elections he made no attempt to hide his support for President Barack Obama’s rivals. And so far, there is no sign of him changing his position. Despite the attempts by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to toe the right-leaning line of the US Jewish community, it’s safe to assume that Netanyahu will bestow his favors on the Republican candidate. After all, it was the Republicans who arranged for him to speak in front of the two houses. Surely he would prefer to see another name — Bush, for instance — gracing the White House door over Clinton.

If Netanyahu had by his side a seasoned foreign minister to provide some balance, he might have warned him against his continued crude interference in American politics. Had he not surrounded himself with yes-men, someone might perhaps have told Netanyahu that his threat to “not accept” the actions of the world powers makes the same impression on them as the threat of a tail to stop wagging a dog. But there’s no one of stature by Netanyahu’s side to challenge his foreign policy and his conduct toward the international community.

threatens the very existence of the country.

After the Second World War, the US smoothly pivoted from the Nazi menace to the Communist Russian and Chinese menaces.

After that it was the falling dominoes in Asia, then the Communist menace in Cuba.

After that it was the Sandinistas, the Haitians, the FMLN, even the Grenadians.

Since the 1990s it has also been the various menaces in the Middle East and Africa.

Israel, like its giant patron, the US, is a militaristic state that requires an enemy for the endless war.

Unless, of course, you were being sarcastic and cruel. If it is the latter, I am devastated and heartbroken.

On the remote chance that you were disagreeing with me, can you tell me of a time that the US and/or Israel was not at war?

Or perhaps you take exception to my characterization of the US, a country that spends nearly as much on war as every other country on earth combined, as "militaristic".

After reading another post on DU, I include this excerpt from that post because it echoes what I said in my first response:

"The United States is also mellowing down, at least for now, with its obsession with the perceived Iranian nuclear threat. If an agreement is reached between Iran and the United States and its allies, then Israel would have no other option but to find another enemy to justify its military belligerence and heightened sense of political urgency.

Indeed, that new enemy is being quickly manufactured, as Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and powerful U.S.-based Zionists such as Sheldon Adelson seem to all agree that the non-violent civil society-empowered movement: BDS, aimed at boycotting, divestment and sanctioning Israel, is Israel’s greatest threat.

While Israel gears up for its new "existential" battle against civil society organizations, it’s keen on normalizing the occupation of Palestine. This is why the "economic peace" formula keeps resurfacing every now and then, the latest being Baskin’s elucidation.

This post, like my own, talks about finding another enemy to continue the state of war that must exist in any country founded on war.

it was part of their live blog which they bring out every time something 'big' happens

but where this is concerned the UNSC will pass it on Monday, the US will vote in favor of it, it's a done deal.

The only thing Congress can really do is stop the US from ratifying it, it's plainly sour grapes but it's also humiliating for Obama and Kerry and in this country that in and of itself might be enough of a prize for them
