Danny Danon, opponent of Palestinian state, to be Israel’s UN ambassador

Danon, 44, has served as a Likud lawmaker since 2009. He was fired from his post as deputy defense minister last year by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after publicly criticizing what he said was the insufficiently aggressive conduct of that summer’s war with Hamas in Gaza.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office Friday said Danon “has been dealing with public diplomacy and international relations for over two decades.”

At a meeting last year with Times of Israel staff, Danon reiterated his fierce opposition to any two-state solution, instead calling on Israel to annex parts of the West Bank. While international consensus speaks of Israel retaining the major Jewish settlements blocs in the West Bank, and the rest going to a future Palestinian state, Danon hopes to “gain sovereignty over the majority of the land” in the West Bank, “with the minimum number of Palestinians,” he said.

According to his plan, the Palestinians would keep only their major population centers and would not receive Israeli citizenship. “Their status will have to be determined with Jordan, Israel and the Palestinians. It shouldn’t be Israel’s burden to deal with that issue. I think Jordan must be involved more than they are today.”

If he just pretends to be a reasonable guy for a while, and doesn't show his true colours, some people on the right will be very eager to forget his past transgressions.

8. Danon stepping away from those positions just means he's willing to lie to get a fancy title

just like his boss is willing to lie to fend off international sanctions.

Netanyahu appointed Danon for one reason: to communicate his extreme contempt for the United Nations as a whole.

9. Netanyahu appointed Danon because

he wanted him out of the way as a political rival. This gets him out of parliament and out of the cabinet for a few years.

10. He punishes Danon by putting him in the UN

and he punishes the UN by forcing them to deal with Danon.

Classic Bibi.

Sending an explicitly one-state solution fanatic is also Bibi's way of showing how insincere his support of the two-state solution really is. Danon and Bibi are both one-state solution guys--Danon says it with words and Bibi with actions.

Very possible that Bibi is also anticipating the US voting for the French resolution.

11. Bibi offered 60% of the W.Bank as a temporary solution for nothing in return...

Report: Abbas rejects offer of 60% of West Bank

Ironically, those pretending to be against W.Bank occupation (and supposedly for more Palestinian sovereignty) opposed this. Like the Palestinians, anti-Zionists, BDS'ers....

So we all know who the real bullshitters are when push comes to shove.

So much for Bibi wanting a greater Israel...

This is the Israeli government giving the UN the middle finger and pretty much publicly making a joke of the two-state solution.

The rest of the planet can now go ahead with the full knowledge that the Israelis are committed to the one-state solution and that only broad external pressure will cause them to see the error of their ways.

and the Republican party is wrong. Silly folks who think that apartheid is wrong--after all, don't they know that God has already passed judgment as to legal title to all of that land?

Of course, never mind that Germany has been selling Israel arms, and that Israel has declared Saudi Arabia to be an ally.

Netanyahu's vision is to make a two-state solution physically while offering obviously insincere lip service to the two state solution.

Danon is off to a solid start in carrying out Israel's big lie.
