Danny Danon, dismally, is the true face of Netanyahu’s Israel

http://www.timesofisrael.com/danny-danon-dismally-is-the-true-face-of-netanyahus-israel/

In an interview with The Times of Israel in June 2013, Danny Danon, serving at the time as deputy minister of defense, asserted that his Likud party and the governing coalition of the day were staunchly opposed to a two-state solution. Despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s professions of support in principle for a two-state deal, the government, said Danon, would block the creation of a Palestinian state if such a proposal ever came to a vote.

His comments caused an uproar. Taking the highly unusual step of contacting The Times of Israel during Shabbat, sources in the Prime Minister’s Office insisted that Danon’s remarks did “not represent the position of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the government of Israel.” Quite the contrary. The sources went on to say that the prime minister “is interested in a resumption of negotiations without preconditions,” and that his positions regarding support for a two-state solution remained in force.

On Friday, Netanyahu announced the appointment of Danon as Israel’s next ambassador to the United Nations — the representative of Israel, that is, who is charged with arguing Israel’s case at the UN Security Council.

Later in 2013, Danon stepped up his rhetoric, declaring that anyone who supports a peace agreement with the Palestinians has no place in the Likud party. The Likud “won’t support an agreement that hands away our assets for nothing,” Danon asserted. And whoever supports such an agreement, “choosing to go against the ideals of the Likud, won’t be in the Likud.”

The real issue is that Danon’s appointment appears to confirm everything Netanyahu’s critics at home and abroad have asserted about his true intentions with respect to the Palestinians. And since those critics are headed by the president of Israel’s main ally — with whom Netanyahu is already in open dispute over the deeply flawed accord with Iran — it is hard to conceive of a more short-sighted, shameful, self-defeating and damaging appointment. Not just for Netanyahu and his government, but for all of Israel.

Israel is already disliked by many countries in the UN. I doubt he will win them friends, but that is not the State Deoartmemt's problem. There are no grounds to deny him entry and it would really anger Netanyahu.

6. That "would really anger Netanyahu." It would also tell him to stop wagging the dog.

4. Danon vows he’ll represent PM’s ‘two-state vision’ as UN envoy

Likud hawk Danny Danon on Saturday promised to faithfully represent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s two-state “vision,” moderate his previous criticisms of the Obama administration, and “surprise his critics,” after political opponents slammed Netanyahu for naming him Friday as Israel’s next envoy to the UN.

“As Israel’s ambassador to the UN, I will represent the Prime Minister’s policies and positions on security and peace, including his longstanding commitment to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons and his vision of two states for two peoples – a demilitarized Palestinian state that recognizes the Jewish state,” Danon wrote.

"We want a peace that would end the conflict once and for all ... I don't support a one-state solution, I don't believe that's a solution at all, I support the vision of two states for two peoples."

11. Netanyahu: If I'm elected, there will be no Palestinian state

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhau said Monday that if he were to be reelected, a Palestinian state would not be created, in a definite disavowal of his 2009 speech, in which he had voiced support for the principle of two states for two peoples.

Netanyahu's remarks in an interview with the NRG website - which is owned by casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and tied with the settler newspaper Makor Rishon - were a last-minute attempt to pull right-wing voters away from Habayit Hayehudi.

"I think that anyone who moves to establish a Palestinian state and evacuate territory gives territory away to radical Islamist attacks against Israel," Netanyahu said. "The left has buried its head in the sand time and after time and ignores this, but we are realistic and understand."

During the interview, Netanyahu declared that if the Zionist Union were to win the elections, "it would attach itself to the international community and do their bidding," including freezing construction in West Bank and East Jerusalem settlements, and cooperate with international initiatives to return Israel's borders to the 1967 lines.

The one thing that is worse than the lying Prime Minister of Apartheid is the grade-D hasbarists who fail at properly juggling those lies for him.

Wouldn't you agree? Sweet dreams.

two states.

And it would take a King's fool to pretend that a seething, neo-fascist racist like Danon would pursue a moderate foreign policy at the UN. This is a man who would be right at home next to Zhironovsky and Le Pen.
