IDF, terrorists clash along Egypt border; 1 Israeli killed

The incident took place at around 6 a.m., along a section of the Egyptian border, located about 30 km. from the Gaza Strip and not far from the Israeli town of Nitzana. The cell attacked a group of workers involved in constructing the border fence with light gunfire and at least one RPG.

One of the workers was killed and another was injured. A force from the Golani Brigade quickly arrived at the scene, located one of the terrorists and in a short exchange of fire killed him.

The IDF later located the body of a second terrorist killed in the clash, and found him to be in possession of an explosive device.

Tracks were found at the scene indicating that one to two additional terrorists had also crossed into Israel.

One Israeli civilian worker was killed Monday morning along the Egyptian border in an ambush combining rifle fire, antitank weapons and two explosive devices.

The coordinated ambush was reminiscent of earlier attacks along the Israel-Egypt border, including the August 18, 2011, attack on Route 12 that claimed eight Israeli lives.

Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich of the IDF Spokesperson’s Office said that the nature of the deployment and the quality of the explosives and other gear were similar to those used in the previous attacks in the region.

The identity of the perpetrators, she said, could not be discussed at this time. The IDF is investigating links to Gaza-based terror organizations.

The attack follows 2 Grad attacks on southern Israel, not on the usual places like Sderot, but on Mitzpeh Ramon and Ovda, leading the IDF to reckon the rockets came from Sinai and not from Gaza.

Not only do they fear MB Islamists eventually taking control of the military, and worse, getting revenge on the non-Islamists in the military; they want to keep the peace with Israel, knowing that if they can't control Egyptian aggression vs. Israel, then the IDF will have to do so.

They've been in power since the 1950's and aren't giving it up so easily, knowing quite well the law of the land; rule or be ruled. Do the oppressing or be oppressed. They cannot be expected to just allow Egyptian Islamists to get revenge on them for the past 60 years.
