Could Netanyahu be playing right into the hands of Hamas?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Lithos (a host of the Israel/Palestine group).

It seems to me that Netanyahu could be doing exactly what Hamas wanted when they attacked Israel.
Hamas has always thought of Israel as an evil empire but why would they attack knowing they have no possibility of defending their people?

It could be that they expected Netanyahu to respond with such overwhelming force against the Palestinian people that the world would turn against Israel. Perhaps they feel that sacrificing multitudes of ordinary Palestinian people is worth it to make Israel a pariah among nations. If this was the thinking, it looks like they may have calculated correctly.
I can feel the world turning against Israel even though Israel's retaliation to the original attack was justified.

..it's a calculated sacrifice. Like pawns, in this case more like two rooks and a knight. Their own people! Whatever else their brutal attack was cynically designed to provoke an overreaching response. Your analysis is spot on.

Thus the majority of Israelis who have seen his corruption and overt attempts to evade justice by trying to dismantle the courts over the past 18 months, have now learned he was funding Hamas for years and ignored the detailed report of what they had planned on Oct 7 and even after it began did virtually nothing to respond for hours and hours. And now has turned the majority of the formerly-strongly-supporting world increasingly against his government, given his indiscriminate tactics against civilians in Gaza.

My question: How could he possibly have done MORE to prove he's "playing right in the hands of Hamas? I find it hard to fathom what more he could do to prove to ALL that he cares not one iota for the people of Israel (or certainly Gaza), but like Trump, only for himself and his own chance of self-preservation.

Who benefits from western democracies looking bad?
Who benefits by the US being engaged in Ukraine and the Middle East?
Who benefits from Biden being wrongly blamed for the carnage?

In the same way, I believe that the Bush/Cheney regime played into Bin Ladin's plans.

They did everything in their power to maximize civilian casualties in Gaza.

They never made a secret of it, they literally bragged about it.
