ISRAELI air strikes killed 16 Palestinians in Gaza, prompting the Arab League to announce a visit to the battered enclave and a review of its Middle East peace policy.
Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi told reporters in Cairo on Saturday his government was in "vigorous" communication with both Israel and the Palestinians.
"There are some indications that there could be a ceasefire soon," Morsi told a joint news conference with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. But there were still "no guarantees", he added.
Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal was also in Cairo for talks, a senior Hamas official said.
Meanwhile Arab foreign ministers at an emergency meeting in Cairo denounced Israel's Gaza campaign and demanded a review of their policy towards the Jewish state.

The fact that NATO has engaged in operations in places like Libya and Afghanistan is only because America was able to get some of their NATO buddies along to give its engagements in those countries some legitimacy without going to the UN (in my opinion).
NATOs role is changing and is something that should be talked about much more than it is. Seems like people forget why the North Atlantic Treaty Organization existed in the first place.

(6,838 posts)I support a Palestinian state. I also support Israel and its right to defend itself.
Hamas is a terror organization that launches attacks in a way to try to maximize civilian injuries/deaths and damage.
Israel, while striking back with far more firepower attacks in a way to try an minimize civilian injuries/deaths and damage.
That to me is crux to the whole situation.
Hamas not only attacks on its own, it gives aid and comfort to other terror groups like Islamic Jihad.
