Palestinians threaten to take Israel to the ICC

Palestinian officials are threatening to use the new status conferred by last week’s United Nations vote to haul Israel before the International Criminal Court (ICC) if it continues to expand West Bank settlements.

“By continuing these war crimes of settlement activities on our lands and stealing our money, Israel is pushing and forcing us to go to the ICC,” Nabil Shaath, a senior aide to the Palestinian President, said.

Hanan Ashrawi, an executive committee member of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, said the international community should consider trade and other sanctions. “We have to move to concrete steps so Israel knows it has something to lose and will be held accountable, in accordance with international law,” she said.

Days after the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, vowed to build thousands of new homes for Israelis in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, officials said they would fast-track plans for 1,700 new homes in Ramat Shlomo, an Israeli neighbourhood across the pre-1967 frontier. The plans caused an uproar when they were first announced during a visit by the US Vice-President, Joe Biden, in March 2010.

Israel/US said it was just a ~symbolic victory~ Oh really?

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, they were shitting bricks and planning their announcement for more settlements. << A move Palestine might use against them at the Hague.

Israel is too busy expanding settlements and annexing Palestinian land.
A person would have to be insane to suppose that Israel would "consent" to be taken to ICC.
I totally agree with you, Mr. Progressive, Israel has the power to annex Palestinian land and dispossess the Palestinian people, and it's doing it, and that is that.

And besides, Israel has the US on its side - regardless of the occasional "tut tut"

...voted for this UNGA resolution.

In fact, ALL nations against Israel's very existence voted for Palestinian statehood while all nations voting against are firmly for the 2 state solution.

And of course, the anti-Israel contingent is as orgasmic as every totalitarian, fascist regime out there that doesn't recognize Israel and is against its very existence.

The loudest anti-Israel voices (here and outiside DU) agree with all of the most ultra-conservative, rightwing, warmongering, fascist regimes on the planet when it comes to anything Israel. The same vile, regressive leadership that support the Sudanese and Syrian regimes right now.

The true face of so-called "progressives" for Palestine. No different than the fascist Right.

Are you saying France is a fascist right-wing regime?

The UK was super close to supporting Palestine as well. Germany switched their support from Israel/US at the last minute. Pretty much the whole f***ing World gave the US & Israel the middle finger.

The two most warmongering countries in the world right now happen to be the US & Israel. When are you going to wake the hell up and stop drinking the kool-aid?

You're a tad bit too trippy and obviously very very depressed by current events. Excuse me if I LMAO again.

The wording is typical of that sold out wimp Abbas, and it SUCKS.

What more evidence is needed that Israel has been continuing, is continuing, and will continue to annex Palestinian land?
Why are they "threatening, if ..." - as if, golly gee, let's give them a bit more time to show their intentions. What does that do, when it ignores the fact that Israel is announcing more present and future expansions and annexations as we speak. Why, if they're to be taken seriously, don't they just do it already? They've had more than enough time to get their case in order. Certainly Israel wastes no time futzing about with "threats to annex more land". It simply does it, and continues to do it.

Here I am, holding my head in my hands - wrung out by the absurdity of it all.
