Lollapalooza Calls off Israel Edition

The music festival has been expanding internationally, but the planned Mideast event reportedly had problems booking talent, among other things.

<snip>

"Music festival Lollapalooza has called off a Mideast edition that was scheduled to take place in Israel this summer - at least for now."

<snip>

"Lollapalooza Israel was announced last year and scheduled to take place Aug. 20-22 at Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park.

Lollapalooza originally started as a touring festival, but then set up Chicago as its regular location in 2005. But in recent years, its organizer, C3 Presents, has been working on expanding the brand internationally with festivals in such countries as Brazil and Chile.

Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's band Jane's Addiction has played in Israel. But the LA Times said that Israeli news organizations reported late last year that organizers for the Israel edition had trouble drawing top talent amid the always-delicate political situation in the Mideast and faced financial and production challenges.

In recent years, the likes of Elvis Costello and The Pixies have cancelled shows in Israel amid protests and pressure, according to the LAT."

... but from a financial position that it won't play Israel?

Anyway, I've been a long time fan of Perry Farrell/Jane's Addiction and the Pixies. Great bands!

I hope that Israel gets that people just don't want to be associated with a colonialist state, start taking steps to change that, and come aboard the world community.
