Uproar after MP attacks 'Jewish atrocities'

An MP who criticised “the Jews” for committing “atrocities on Palestinians” on the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day is facing disciplinary action from his party.

In comments that outraged Jewish leaders, David Ward, the Liberal Democrat MP for Bradford East, added that, while people should “learn from” the Holocaust, “the suffering by the Jews has not transformed their views on how others should be treated”.

hiding behind those SIX MILLION Jews killed in the holocaust. Gotta keep an eye on them .

I'd argue with you but after reading your views on "hiding", I think I would be wasting my time.

Yes, the suffering inflicted upon the people of Palestine is saddening and - more than that - angering and worth action to oppose and stop.

But "The Jews" are not responsible, Mr. Ward. That's a collective term that enfolds all Jewish people as a group. The great majority of the world's Jews had nothing to do with what happened in Palestine / Israel, and a majority of them continue that. In fact if any polity is to be held responsible, it is your own. Great Britain, more than any Jew, more than any Arab, is responsible for the suffering and blood from both of those peoples in the Levant. The body to which you belong, an elected, representative parliament was the engine behind the carnage you speak of now.

You wanted to draw attention to the condition of the Palestinians, and that's, on its own, commendable. You decided to pick a really shitty occasion to do so, and in unapologetically shitty terms. In so doing, you just focused a circus around yourself. Bravo.

Want to help the Palestinians, Mr. Ward? Use your position in the government of the colonial power with the most to answer for to provide recompense for that suffering and provide the resources needed to arbitrate against further suffering for either Jews or Arabs in the territory.

David Ward MP 'sorry' over Israel criticism

A Liberal Democrat MP who accused "the Jews" in Israel of "inflicting atrocities on Palestinians... on a daily basis" has apologised for the "unintended offence".

Bradford East MP David Ward said in a blog post he had been "trying to make clear that everybody needs to learn the lessons of the Holocaust".

He had made his initial comments ahead of Sunday's Holocaust Memorial Day.

On Friday, his party "condemned" his "use of language".
