Settlers indicted for attacking Palestinian and his flock of sheep

http://972mag.com/settlers-indicted-for-attacking-palestinian-and-his-flock-of-sheep/66443/

With some surprise, we learned a couple of days ago that one of our old files, from October 2011, has recently matured into an indictment. In December 2012, the police prosecution indicted two settlers for assaulting a Palestinian, Muhammad Al Qarajat, next to the settlement of Karmei Tzur.

And if you think we were surprised, you should have seen the settlers. Karemi Tzur is a troublesome place. In June 2012, according to the complaints we received, the settlement’s “Ravshatz” – a settler who is in charge of the security of the settlements and who commands soldiers (similar to a lawless sheriff) – physically attacked Palestinians who were working their lands near the settlement. According to the complaint, the Ravshatz showed extra good taste by cursing the name of Islam’s founder Muhammad as he attacked the Palestinians. The settlers he led also cursed two international volunteers, saying they were “smiling like Nazis.” The Ravshatz then summoned soldiers, who used heavy violence against both the Palestinians and the volunteers who attempted to document the incident. One of the soldiers, according to the complaints, even tried to steal the camera. The video was enough to release one of the beaten and wounded Palestinians. It’s worth mentioning that during his hearing, the military prosecutor claimed he was wounded when “the butt of one of the soldiers’ rifles hit him accidentally.” A likely story. Despite the video, the investigation of the Ravshatz was recently closed, as the Hebron police claimed it could not identify the perpetrator.

"This video, recorded December 27, 2012 by a B'Tselem volunteer, documents a Jewish settler attempting to convince Palestinian farmers, he is the rightful owner of their land using a logic only some people can appreciate. The conversation is taking place after an Israeli High Court decision resulting from a petition filed by the Palestinian owners demanding access to their land which has been obstructed for years.

This is privately owned agricultural land belonging to villagers of Yasuf, located in the Salfit region in the heart of the West Bank. Yasuf land is almost completely surrounded by illegal settlements and outposts, including the radical settlement of Tapuach, site of a Kahanist yeshiva. Yasuf villagers have suffered violent attacks for years and the farmers have been denied access to thousands of dunams of their land since 2001."

That is unfortunate, as I am confused on a point of minor periphery that was brought up in the piece: how exactly does one "smile like a Nazi"?

What a strange thing to say, and I have years of experience witnessing people on the Internet shoehorn some Nazi reference into the most bizarre place in a conversation!

I always thought they were a rather dour subsection of people, what with the finding conspiracies against themselves under every rock, justifying every action as "defending themselves" against the hostile peoples they were surrounded by, burdened by their holy singular purpose, and of course feeling absolutely above the judgements of others.... Not a lot of smiling involved with the Nazi program, I thought.

temerity to write: "If you want to seriously engage this question, I'm happy to do so. If you'd rather just make jokes, then knock yourself out."

I guess that depends on the day, time of day, what O had for breakfast or if he is ever serious.

9. What do you think of the settler's argument:

"The Land of Israel... was given by God to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And we are the people of Israel, the sons of Jacob."

Do you think this settler should be taken at his word, or do you think he should produce an original deed and produce a line of continuous succession by deeded will from parent to child to him, personally, to prove that he has ownership of this exact piece of land?

Do you think the settler's argument is insane, esp. in the 21st century, thousands of years after his bibles were written? Do you think that references to the quran are equally insane, having no legal status w.r.t. what is right and just in current circumstances?

Or are you here only to heckle and harass?

My own opinion is that biblical/quranic arguments are in fact insanely disconnect from actual facts and events. The settler, in particular, is insane to tell this Palestinian and all around, including any non-Jew who might be watching the vid, that when the messiah comes we'll be lucky to be seen fit to be slave to his people. He's the kind of guy I sometimes see wandering delirious down the streets preaching at trees and cursing at rocks, and sometimes violently acting out in unpredictable ways.

Do you agree with that crazy stuff the settler is saying, and support the settler in his argument, but don't have the settler's cojones in saying it to our faces - is that why you prefer to heckle and taunt?

It would be one thing if you had proof that the story was actually fake, but if the story is true, the link its quoted from is irrelevant.

You never make an issue of shira endlessly quoting stories from "Israel National News", which is nothing but a propaganda site for the craziest and most reactionary of the West Bank land thieves...er, settlers.

clearing up another settler complaint from those pesky liars, the Palestinians.
