Hamas reject's Kerry's announcement: Abbas has no authority to negotiate

Hamas dismissed US State Secretary John Kerry's announcement of the resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians and slammed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas : "He has no legitimacy to negotiate in the name of the Palestinian people on the core issues."

Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri made it clear to AFP that "Hamas rejects John Kerry's announcement," and the spokesman of the Hamas government, Ihab al-Ghossein, said that "the Palestinian people will not accept those who negotiate on its behalf without a mandate."

On what authority could any clique claim to govern the West Bank and Gaza, and the refugee populations?
I don't think Abbas fits the bill.
The USA and perhaps even more Israel *freaked* when Hamas was elected. They went into supersonic speeds. So we know that the USA and Israel don't support the democratic process.
That complicates matters considerably.

israel was not surprised.....only the naive, willfully blind and ignorant were actually surprised that hamas won (bush white house) and later completed their take over with their weapons. The same bunch of willfully blind and ignorant were surprised that the MB took Egypt, the "arab spring" in syria turned in to a blood fest....(Obama white house)
_________

ignorance has consequences....creating/supporting an environment, that is anti western democratic or ignorant of its values, to have democratic elections, that elect an anti western, anti democratic theocratic dictatorship is worse than stupid, its borders on criminal given what those type of govts actually do to their citizens (i.e. iran being a good example)

the only ones who "freaked" were the ignorant, naive and willfully blind
