Boogie night on the West Bank lands Israeli soldiers in hot water

(CNN) -- The city of Hebron on the West Bank has been a flashpoint of tension between Israelis and Palestinians for decades.

But you'd never know it from a video posted on YouTube, showing armed Israeli soldiers walking into a Palestinian club there this week during a wedding party.

They didn't go in shooting. And the young Palestinian men inside didn't throw a single stone or fist.

The soldiers had heard the dance music streaming out into the streets and went inside to boogie with the crowd, CNN affiliate Channel 2 reported.

A group of Israeli soldiers have been suspended after being caught dancing with Palestinians while on patrol in the West Bank.

The troops were walking past a dance hall in the Jabara neighbourhood of Hebron when they went in after hearing the song Gangnam Style by South Korean singer Psy. TV footage aired on Israel’s Channel 2 shows the fully armed soldiers dancing with dozens of Palestinian men.

Wearing their uniforms, flak jackets and carrying guns, the soldiers are seen joining hands with the partygoers and one is even hoisted on to the shoulders of the Palestinian dancers. An Israeli military spokesman said today that it considered the incident on Monday as “serious”.

He added that “the soldiers exposed themselves to unnecessary danger and were disciplined accordingly”.

Maybe they should send Psy to mediate the peace negotiations!

We sure don't want our soldiers exposing themselves to any unnecessary danger.

Can't speak to the facts, but this sort of thing seems more likely to win hearts and minds.

One of the more bizarre incidents of the year: two soldiers in Hebron entered a Palestinian wedding while on patrol – apparently they heard the sound of PSY’s “Gangnam Style” from outside - and started dancing with the crowd, which seemed to enjoy the spectacle. After the inevitable Youtube clip surfaced, the entire patrol got suspended. An openly horrified report on Channel 2 stated that the wedding’s guests were “from a known Hamas family,” no less.

now I'd think this would make a perfect PR moment, but no, I guess that's what by 'military intelligence'
