Syria military base blasts said to be Israeli strike

AMMAN/JERUSALEM | Thu Oct 31, 2013 7:15pm EDT

(Reuters) - Syrian rebels and a U.S. official cited by CNN said on Thursday Israel had mounted a new attack on a Syrian military base but the Israeli government declined to confirm any strike.

CNN quoted an unidentified U.S. administration official on Thursday as saying Israeli warplanes struck a Syrian base near the port of Latakia, targeting missiles that Israel thought might be transferred to its Lebanese militia enemy Hezbollah.

One Syrian opposition source, a defector from air force intelligence with contacts in the Latakia region, said Israel struck a strategic missile battery near a village called Ain Shikak where President Bashar al-Assad's forces kept long-range Russian missiles that are among their most powerful weapons.

"We're not commenting on these reports," an Israeli Defence Ministry spokesman said. The government has not commented publicly on at least three attacks on Syria earlier this year.

Personally, I find it rather dubious that Syria, in its current situation, would just give some of its strongest pieces of arsenal to the goombahs next door. At least, I think it's more likely that this strike is just another part of Israel's ongoing involvement in the Syrian civil war against Damascus.

given that no one has any idea who will be the ultimate winner in this little international "civil war" where players are now coming from all over the world with their own private and public backers…

i would guess that israel is simply taking advantage of the situation to take out the weapons that have the most dangerous direct threat to israel.

its clear that you believe some lives are more worthy of living than others…..and this is from your "objective" point of view

before you respond, remember your therapy,
1) count to 10,
2) take a deep breath,
3) walk away from the computer for at least 30 minutes

you've made yourself clear time and time again of your racists view. from there you add massive ethnocentricity…at that point your claim of "objectivity" ls laughable as well as your definition of "justice"

such a foundation can hardly result in an equal respect for human lives as well as they way they live

actually I enjoy the game when you "lose it" and start calling me names. (and they have to hide your posts)

I even had to look up a few of them to understand them…and you are a source of further amusement. i think it was the post where you declared yourself a "winner" that was the best (on that one I almost lost it and spilled my coffee, just missed the keyboard on my laptop)

and of course i do find the irony of colonialist attitude and your inability to actually recognize it always fun…..not a surprise of course (all religious fanatics have that same character), but the "progressives" never seem to actually see just how similar their views and attitudes are to those they claim are so bad

clearly the "jury" decision to hide the posts, is not working, since the poster continues….

so clearly a more imaginative, aggressive approach is required. Infact, i would think that other posters who are bothered by such responses (as in fuk off) would also comment to that poster and in public explain how such responses are not appropriate.

so until there is a lager more public community effort i shall continue on my own

Which is why I turned up to correct you and make the Meta comment in the hope you might be someone genuinely interested in not dragging the I/P forum into the gutter that Meta resided in.

Just a suggestion, but you should take note of that cliché about people in glass houses not throwing stones, coz it just looks ridiculous.

Give me a yell when you manage to discover a more imaginative and assertive (not aggressive) approach. I'll be interested to see it...

btw, I commented as someone who wandered back in here after a long while to see what was going on, and what I saw from you up to and including that claim you weren't throwing insults around, wasn't a good look. Now, I'll wander back out for a while again and let you get the last word where you blame others for yr own behaviour. But when I ever want a Meta-fix I know where to come!

i prefer not to throw insults because i believe its counterproductive…I assume at the time when i claimed i wasn't it was before i "met" this poster and decided to change my "policy"

your mistaken, I'm not blaming others for my behavior, i am fully capable of making decisions on my own based on my values and acting/writing as i believe is appropriate.

In this particular case, given the fact that the "community" has failed in its attempts, to teach the poster that emotional responses as in "fuk you" are not appropriate, i've decided on my own, because i believe its an option that should be tried out, to be a bit more aggressive and see where that leads.

30. the insulting...2 aspects
Sun Nov 3, 2013, 03:59 AM
Nov 2013

1) when you get all emotional and write "fuk off" or other 5th grade level remarks, that get your posts hidden, (which by the way are now much less), i attribute to your inability to differentiate between real life outside of the screen and cyber life within.....that requires some reaction, i prefer a combination of humor and sarcasm, (though i may not always succeed)

2) your inability to address certain aspects of your base foundation beliefs......and the subsequent attempts at "insulting me" (which btw is really really really difficult to do from an anonymous source on an internet forum).
________________

Surely you can at the very least source your insults, allowing me some means of defense against what otherwise is nothing but the basest of slander.
you are the source of my insults....and your best defense is to further explain your viewpoint when its questioned, use additional materials, and most important of all, if my question is not understood, rather than ignoring it, try asking for further explanation and answer as best to your ability, even the ones that get to the very base on your belief that you simply cannot understand.

you might notice, that quotes from politicians rarly get an response from me, since lying is part of their profession, historians are easily misquoted or their quotes taken out of context, hence they too get little reaction from me. What does, are actual physical events....and this is why we have a problem. You have very little experience in the physical world and have confused the cyber world of words with the actual events that people go through. Words are not real, a quote does not make things real.....

I have no idea what " Meta " is or refers to , but I have been wondering where you have gotten to.

Why ?........ because you are the reason I turned up here .

I had never heard of DU until I read this :

Then Violet Crumble, an active DU member, wrote me an e-mail asking what I thought of the idea of creating a progressive Israel-Palestine discussion forum. She felt frustrated with the level of vitriol in the debate directed at progressives there by the right-wing participants.

Source : http://www.israellycool.com/2010/12/23/silversteins-bedfellows/

I never intended to join here I was just curious ....then I saw pelsar describe Uri Avnery and other post zionists as Liberal Zionists .....just had to correct him .

So now I'm hooked .... thanks to you

pelsar has thrown more than a few insults my way since then, which I have done my best to ignore ....I truly would not describe him as a " right-wing participant " ... more as a confused American born moderate Zionist .

So who do you consider to be these " right-wing participants " ????

BTW I totally agree with you re : " Any chance you could try talking about issues " ...the insults and the personal attacks are a diversion from the issues as is King_David's mockery .

Anyhow hi finally

Nice to meet you. I've been reading some of the older threads and I'm really impressed with yr posts. Heh, you should probably hate me for being the person responsible for bringing you to the I/P forum

I've been around, mainly up in GD where there's a heavy rotation of Edward Snowden/gender wars/pitbulls/ACA/gender wars/pitbulls/breast feeding at the Olive Garden/cute kitty pics and on and on and on. When we switched from DU2 to DU3 the dynamics of DU changed for me and I/P suddenly seemed tiny and boring....

Ah, just to make it clear for any of the five people reading. That israelisreallycool isn't the forum I helped run, just in case anyone sees that link and doesn't click on it. That thing's run by some psycho nutcase who'd be right at home at Conservative Cave. I did click, and was amused to discover I ALLOWED sickening anti-Semitic cartoons to be posted on Richard's forum, and that they were only removed when some other forum somewhere else said something. It's a long time ago now, but I remember that we had rules against posting bigotry of any kind, that the offending post/s was/were deleted as soon as admin saw them and the offending poster banned on the spot. I guess some weirdo somewhere was whining because we didn't have premoderation set up on our forum or something...

Ah, yes, the RW participants. I'm thinking a few of them ended up tombstoned or didn't make the journey over to DU3

on edit: I forgot about Meta. It was a forum here at DU3 where DUers could go and talk or mainly whine about DU and other DUers, sort of a release valve. But it ended up being the cyber-version of a Jerry Springer show complete with punch-ups, and Skinner ended up mercifully getting rid of it. DU's a lot better for it.

While I'm here, for any music lovers down here, I've started a thread elsewhere about the 10 greatest albums of all time. Feel free to admire or to get opinionated!

At this moment Hezbollah is coming to Syria's aid, not vice-versa.
I imagine that Hezbollah already at this time has quite some arsenal, and even better strategists. I figure this because excellence comes after being under pressure and not caving, and Hezbollah is trained in exactly that.
