Israel acknowledged for the first time Tuesday that it is providing humanitarian aid to victims of the civil war inside neighboring Syria, saying it has funneled food and other emergency supplies to embattled villages just across the frontier.
Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon made the announcement during a visit to the Israeli-controlled side of the Golan Heights. Syrian troops and rebels have been clashing in the area for months, and hundreds of civilians have fled especially heavy fighting to neighboring Lebanon in recent days.
"We can't sit by and watch the humanitarian difficulties on the other side," Yaalon said. "We've transferred water, food, including baby food, taking into consideration that these villages are besieged and they don't have access to any other place. So therefore yes, we are assisting with humanitarian aid along the fence."
Israel and Syria are bitter enemies, and Israel has avoided taking sides in the Syrian fighting that pits President Bashar Assad's government against rebels seeking to oust it. Still, dozens of wounded Syrians have been treated at Israeli hospitals. Last month, a pregnant Syrian woman escaping the bloodshed gave birth in an Israeli hospital.

(58,724 posts)Offering refuge? Yes I'm sure that would've gone over well.
Israel is not recognized as a "neighboring state" by Syria (or the rebels).
Probably the worst thing for the people of Syria would have been for Israel to publicly offer refuge to people fleeing the violence there.

(25,699 posts)Israel should offer refuge for people who need it. Spare me this bullshit of "Israel doesn't offer, for their own good," because it's not gonna fool anyone here, no matter how hard you try.

(58,724 posts)Syrian rebels have repeatedly rejected overtures from Israel to provide humanitarian assistance.
In fact some of the Syrian rebels have spoken of targeting Israel next after they overthrow Assad.
Both sides in the Syrian conflict do everything they can to distance themselves from the Zionist Entity.
Is this seriously something you are not aware of?

(25,699 posts)Look. Pathlogical liars have tells and ticks. Shirahas her "Admit it! Admit it! Admit it!" garbage and belief that she can rephrase the same argument eight times in a thread and expect different outcomes. Dave thinks that he can squirm out by accusing people of party disloyalty. And you act a lot like a five year old who dumped his dinner into the aquarium, that sort of "oh gosh, I don't know how did what is I don't even...!" false cluelessness
As much as these traits make me want to play poker with you bunch, they're not very productive for this sort of thing, so you really might want to rein in your twitches.
Now. From the top. We both understand that i'm talking about the refugees, correct? I think that's a fair assumption, given you use hte word in your previous responses. So where in the world are you coming from with this post, suddenly talking about rebel factions? We're talking about refugees. Is it too much to assume that you can tell the difference? I mean I don't think you're as dumb as you act, but I have to admit I don't think you're rocket surgeon material, either.
if we can understand that we're talking about the notion of offering asylum to refugees, and that this is your response to that notion:
Then I think it's safe to assert that your position is that Israel is doing these people some sort of favor by letting them languish in Syria, rather than offering asylum. Perhaps you think Israel deserves praise for this, as well.
Speaking of demanding praise, you and the jolly manure-spreaders upthread? You're sparing the rest of us the effort of pointing out this is a hasbara photo-op and nothing more. Your apparent attempt at self-referential humor is sort of like Bush looking for WMD under his couch. That sort of joke just doesn't work outside of cartoons, much less when people - whether you can acknowledge them as such or not - are suffering from it.
