Not saying it might not be them, but to me it seems more likely thats its one of the smaller more extreme groups wanting to show they have bigger *bleep* then Hamas, i mean there are some groups there who actually believes Hamas is aligned/'bought' by Israel

(90,061 posts)CAIRO (AP) A senior official says Hamas has decided not to extend a 72-hour cease-fire with Israel because Israel has rejected all of the group's demands in indirect talks in Cairo.
The cease-fire is to end at 0800 (0500 GMT) Friday.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was en route to informing Egyptian mediators of the decision.
The official says the Hamas delegation met for several hours early Friday with Egyptian officials. He says that in exchange for extending the truce, Hamas had demanded that Israel agree in principle to end Gaza's border closure and allow the rebuilding of Gaza.

(1,417 posts)Or to put it in a less biased way.....Israel refused to consider opening the sea access to Gaza so Hamas refused to stop firing rockets.
Anybody surprised?

(26,748 posts)Israel's position at the talks has been reported multiple times. They're clearly willing to open up the borders... but with a difference Palestinian group in charge.
That's what Hamas objects to. They have to be in charge of the rebuilding so that they can buy public support (and, of course, so they can re-arm).

(1,417 posts)I don't suppose Hamas likes Netanyahu either.....You deal with the people in charge whether you like them or not.
Your's and Israel's distaste for dealing with Hamas seems a small thing when there is a chance to stop the killing............

(26,748 posts)The "unable to work with" appears to be entirely on Hamas' side.
Your's and Israel's distaste for dealing with Hamas
It's not just us... it's apparently the other Palestinian groups... and Egypt... and a numbr of other arab nations. I'm not sure that there's anyone left on Hamas' side...
... except on DU of course.
On DU today on LBN I read quite a few posts breathlessly explains that Hamas never broke the cease fire or that it was Islamic jihad or that the rockets fall harmlessly in the desert so what's the big deal....
Here in DU.

(26,060 posts)hamas government has more supporters right here than they do in any country in the mid-east. Nobody seems to be asking themselves why that is.

(26,060 posts)to allow elections. The little darlings. The only support they get is from the far left Americans which I consider a stain on the Democratic party.

(21,786 posts)Hamas are the elected party of government in Gaza. This is no different to the British government having to negotiate with Sinn Féin despite the Provos being effectively the armed wing of Sinn Féin and responsible for multiple terrorist actions.

(26,060 posts)for indulging my laziness and providing that link. Bill Clinton did a good job there. I wonder if something like that could work here. Hopefully it won't take hundreds of years.

(26,748 posts)If republicans win a majority in the House and Senate, and then the White House two years later...
... then in a series of violent clashes, they kill many of the Democrats... then cease all elections.
Would you still consider them the elected party of Government in the US almost a decade later?

A new meaning for "unity" I suppose... if it weren't so much like what happened after the last "unity", eh?
