The agreement was set to end at 8am (local time) this morning.
But Israeli officials claimed two rockets were fired into the south of the country just hours before the truce was set to end.
"Moments ago, 2 rockets fired from Gaza hit southern Israel. Terrorists have violated the cease-fire", tweeted the official Israeli Defence Forces.
Then just minutes after the ceasefire expired, 21 more rockets were launched into southern Israel.
By midday, 33 rockets had been fired from Gaza with 26 of the missiles touching in Israel.
The Israeli army confirmed three of the 33 missiles were intercepted and four fell short in Gaza.
Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev said all talks are off following the Hamas attack.
He said: "The ceasefire is over. They did that.
"When Hamas broke the cease-fire, when Hamas launched rockets and mortar shells at Israel, they broke the premise of the talks.
"There will not be negotiations under fire."

(8,170 posts)first it was 2 mortar shells ...
... then it was 2 rockets intercepted over Ashkelon ...
... now it's 30 rockets.
And you wonder why I think this is all Israeli propaganda

If, as threatened, Hamas launches a tunnel attack next, will you claim that it's just Israel changing their story again?
And you wonder why I think this is all Israeli propaganda
I don't wonder about that at all. I'm pretty sure I know why. But it sure doesn't appear to be because the evidence points that way.

(1,417 posts)Not possible...According to Netanyahu Israel has achieved its objective of destroying all the tunnels......Or was that propaganda for Israelis?

(26,748 posts)That isn't what he said at all.

(8,170 posts)This is why I suspect propaganda. It could well be that there were first 2 mortars fired, then later 2 missiles then later still another 28 missiles but that is not what is being claimed.
The Israelis, just as much as Hamas, seek to change the narrative to their benefit and, for whatever reason, the apologists for Israeli actions discount UN and other independent reports.
