Islamic Jihad: Israel should expect response to 'settler terrorism'
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement on Wednesday condemned an attack on a Palestinian village mosque by Jewish settlers earlier in the day, warning that a "response" should be expected.
"
The one) who encourages the killing of our people, destruction of our possessions, and the burning of our mosques has to expect a response at any moment," an official source in the movement said in a statement.
The statement came in response to the torching of a mosque in the al-Mughayyir village near Ramallah earlier Wednesday by Israeli settlers.
The source said that the "crime was committed under the protection of Israeli forces that were sent by the Israeli government to secure settler terrorism in the West Bank," alluding to widespread allegations that soldiers often look the other way or even protect Jewish settlers engaged in attacks on Palestinians.
The statement added that the "crime" reveals that Israel is prepared to carry out more attacks on Palestinians' possessions and to target their holy sites.
