Samantha Power, U.S. Ambassador, Issues Warning on Anti-Semitism in Europe

BERLIN — Against the backdrop of what several speakers called an unmistakable rise in anti-Semitism in Europe, the American ambassador to the United Nations warned on Thursday that the increase in attacks poses a threat to European values, and urged leaders to step up their efforts to thwart anti-Jewish sentiment.

“Make no mistake – we have a problem,” said Samantha Power, a top aide to President Obama, at a conference here organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. She said the growing number of anti-Semitic acts “are not only a threat to the Jewish community, they are a threat to the larger project of European liberalism and pluralism.”

The two-day conference was attended by only about two-thirds of the 57 member states, most of whom, unlike the United States, sent deputy-level representatives.

Ms. Power, speaking firmly, chastised European leaders, asking why fewer countries were attending the gathering than were present a decade ago, when representatives passed a resolution on fighting anti-Semitism, known as the Berlin Resolution. Deputy Foreign Minister Tzachi Hanegbi of Israel noted at the time that the measure had been adopted with the force of law in only 12 of the 57 participating states.

Several speakers and delegates noted that the rise in anti-Semitic attacks had often been linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict this year in and around the Gaza Strip. But dissenting from Israeli policy should be firmly separated from anti-Semitism, Ms. Power and others said.

Always has.

And the Iranian ayatollah wants to return all the Jews to Europe.

And it's never stopped hating the Romani peoples. One would expect that as long as some bigotries are encouraged and cultured, others will arise alongside, even those formerly regarded as taboo.

I respectfully encourage you to inform yourself on this topic.

Here's a NY Times article to get you started:

Here's a little experiment I would encourage you to try. Travel to a major city in Europe - let's say Paris - go to a predominately Muslim and/or Arab neighborhood and walk around dressed like a Hasidic Jew.

Report back to DU with your findings.

This is becoming a regular problem, it seems.

I'm saying that tolerance for bigotry allows for the expansion of more bigotry. That opposition to bigotry is an all-or-nothing prospect. you can't say "Well, it's bad to hate these people, but not those people" and expect the prohibition against the first group to hold. It doesn't matter what the target or the source is, this is just how bigotry works.

Even though you post here with über confidence about Jews and Jewish people and antisemitism you need do a lot of learning reading and studying to understand a little of what you actually believe that you do understand.
