IDF medic reports modifications to procedures

Furthermore over the course of the week, D. participated in a refresher on the rules of engagement, where he said he was given permission to kill people who no longer pose a threat. “They told us that the order regarding someone who stabs, ditches the knife and begins running is shoot to kill. The company commander said he doesn’t want anyone like that ‘to see a judge.’”

The company seemed very bitter over the rules of engagement. The company commander almost apologized every time he forbade. So when he finally gave us permission to shoot an unarmed terrorist, most of the company was okay with that.”

It was only two weeks ago that Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich made a public statement to a similar effect in the wake of the vehicular attack in Sheikh Jarrah. Two days later police shot Kheir Hamdan to death in Kafr Kanna.

The IDF Spokesperson has yet to respond to the above claims.

I would think that if someone stabs a member of the IDF and flees then this would be the standard procedure.

Rule of law requires legal process before the state violence is initiated. You have to have a judge and jury and stuff, see? Not just one guy with a gun and permission to shoot anybody that he is pissed at. That is law of the gun.

It's called "fire discipline" in the military and means you don't shoot just because you are threatened. "Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes!". A big ammo saver that. Anyway, I expect pretty much the same thing from any government functionary, that they follow orders and not freak out just because things get dicey. People who get scared and start shooting don't get any applause from me.

And actually, cops usually have rules about when shooting is justified too, but they also ignore them with impunity, which AGAIN is not the rule of law, it is the rule of some guys opinion.
