A US court in New York has found the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority liable for attacks in Israel over 10 years ago.
Six attacks in and around Jerusalem killed 33 people and wounded hundreds more during the second Palestinian intifada between 2002 and 2004.
The jury awarded victims of the attacks more than $218m.
The Palestinian groups expressed dismay at the court's decision and vowed they would appeal.
As some of the victims were American citizens, the lawsuit was filed in a US court.

The heart of the case that Shurat Hadin and Kent Yalowitz of Arnold & Porter LLP have brought on behalf of 11 victims families is a move to sue the PA for its alleged involvement in seven terrorist attacks from 2001-2004 during the second intifada.

Think it matters who the Shurat Hadin are?
The Jury found them guilty.

Appeals are possible , it is a democracy.

(45,850 posts)and I think very few of the US papers reporting on this story mentioned Shurat HaDin, the Washington Post did but only after the fact
will it matter I would think that would depend on ones political leanings

King_David
(14,851 posts)But I will say paying a stipend for mass murder is bottom of the barrel and if anyone in any civilized place ever did that they should get life in prison as an accomplice.

(14,851 posts)Same as those bankrolling ISIS , locked up forever and money confiscated.

(45,850 posts)because of who the father/husband is?

(14,851 posts)Even if Jews are the victims or Coptic Christians or Gays the accomplices paying for the mass murder should be locked up forever and their money confiscated.

(45,850 posts)bankroll you mean Abbas paid them to do murder people, so they did it?
King_David
(14,851 posts)And handlers to mass murder as many Jews as possible with a reward to their families?
Imagine the USA allowing Anyone to pay a huge stipend to the families of Osama Bin Ladin for work well done .
Not gonna happen anywhere civilized.
azurnoir
(45,850 posts)so you claim Abbas bribed the accused perpetrators to commit these acts?
King_David
(14,851 posts)If anyone paid Osama Bin Ladins family money I believe the reaction would be the same.

(45,850 posts)well okay then and BTW Bin Lauden had his own money and in no way was living under the same conditions as Palestinian under occupation, he was a wealthy elitist

(14,851 posts)Supporting paying these murderers or their families stipends or rewards for killing Jews is outrageous and thankfully never be accepted by any civilized culture.
It doesn't happen in civilized cultures and not is killing gays accepted in any civilized culture either.

What part do you not get. Your support is offensive and outrageous....and would never be accepted by our Democratic Party EVER...I am surprised to see such support here for paying someone or his wife or his children or his friend or lover a reward for mass murder of Jewish children (Dolphinerium Disco ---Google it )
azurnoir
(45,850 posts)The perpetrators of these acts have already been brought to justice they are either dead for the most part or in prison, not even the families of 9/11 victims get to sue the Saudi's, usually justice is considered as being served when the people that actually physically committed the crime are punished

(6,068 posts)If someone I knew was killed in one of those attacks I would feel exactly the same way.
They're not going to get anything near the award. The Palestinian Monetary Authority held $30 million in the US the last time this happened, but if they have any brains this time they would have reduced that substantially.
The lawyers have mentioned enforcing the judgment elsewhere (in other jurisdictions where US judgments can be enforced). I think that they will find that tricky.

(45,850 posts)in this case the legality of such a move would matter very little
