Report: 1,000+ Jews Have Left France for Israel Since Terror Attacks

Over 1,000 Jews have left France for Israel since the Paris terror attacks earlier this year, and this wave of French immigration is invigorating the Israeli real estate market, Israeli business publication Globes reports.

The Globes report cites Elior Asherian, a lawyer who has helped a number of them move, and statistics from the Israeli Ministry of Finance showing a rise in home purchases, and mentions the Netanya area, which saw an influx of French immigrants in 2014.

“There are many French Jews in Netanya. In my opinion more than 1,000 French Jews have come to Israel since the Paris attacks,” Asherian said.

Europe as a whole is unsafe, Israel's future is uncertain.

It is a pity that the Israeli right metality is tarnishing the morals of that country.

I'm sorry, while the killings at the grocery store in Paris are terrible, it does not mean Europe is teetering on the precipice of a new shoah. It means a bigoted asshole murdered people in a store.

11. if that were the only anti-semitic incident, sure, but it's not. Part of a much wider pattern.

Before the grocery store there was Mohamed Merah. After the grocery store was Copenhagen.

Not just in France, but across the continent. A vile cross-pollination of European-style fascism with bigotry amongst the Muslim population. As witnessed by the rise of figures such as Dieudonne.

http://forward.com/articles/185682/-of-european-jews-afraid-to-wear-kippah-study-r/

A quarter of respondents in a major survey of Jews from nine European countries said they avoid visiting places and wearing symbols that identify them as Jews for fear of anti-Semitism.

Fear of wearing a kippah and other identifiably Jewish items was especially strong in Sweden, where 49 percent of 800 respondents said they refrained from such actions, in a survey conducted this year among more than 5,100 Jews by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights.

In France, 40 percent of approximately 1,200 Jews said they avoided wearing such items in public, followed by Belgium with 36 percent, according to preliminary results from the survey, obtained by JTA.

In total, 22 percent of respondents said they avoided “Jewish events or sites” because of safety concerns.

Is there a threat of the holocaust being repeated? No.

But how much harassment and intimidation is a minority population supposed to endure before they decide it's not worth it?

If French Jews need to have their schools surrounded by barbed wire and concrete bunkers, as they are in Toulouse, at what point do they find themselves living in another ghetto?

Even Sweden is experiencing pogroms against its Jewish community in places like Malmö, where the mayor Ilmar Reepalu was openly complicit in such attacks.

12. So should blacks evacuate the United States for somewhere safer?

Of course there are antisemitic incidents. So long as Jews are a minority, there will be antisemitic incidents, just as there are displays of bigotry against every minority group, wherever they may be. It's an unfortunate reality, but as the phrase says, haters gonna hate.

So do a handful of events translate into an entire nation, even an entire subcontinent being "Unsafe"? No, it really doesn't. The claims that they do, are simply scaremongering. Efforts by interested parties to frighten and alienate Jews, demonize their non-Jewish neighbors, and incite flight.

The answer is not to run away. That just makes the problem worse, by making the targeted group smaller and more vulnerable. The answer is always to challenge and resist bigotry.

13. Jews get harassed at 10x the rate, per capita, that Muslims do in

France.

It's not a majority picking on a minority thing--it's members of one minority beating up on a much smaller minority.

How many times does one hear "sale juif" before it becomes too much?

It's easy to say one shouldn't give in, but how does one ask their children to live in a society where they have to hide who they are?

And where is the hope that things will get better instead of getting worse?

Just imagine what happens when the ISIS volunteers return home. Unfortunately, a great many of them will survive.

More than I would be able to take.

4. Does this also speak to French anti-Semitism?

From Le Monde global digital edition:

Marine Le Pen is the head of the FN, the National Front. The FN is an extreme right wing nativist hate group masquerading as a political party. In my view Le Pen is the slightly more articulate French answer to Sarah Palin.

The statement below essentially translates as Mme. Le Pen asking for all the public interdiction of the veil, for Muslim women, or the kippa for Jewish males. No public display of religious garments, she says, without naming Catholic religious garments.

This singling out of Jews and Muslims is in keeping with her many statements that talk about "the essential character of the Republic". This essential character means people with white skin and French names.

the FN, of which Marine Le Pen is the leader, polls very well both in EU and national elections. It represents a strain of anti-Semitism that has manifested many times since the First Republic.

During the second world war, the Vichy Republic was noted for its ferocious anti-Semitism.

You might also wish to look at the many issues of Charlie Hebdo that use the same disgusting caricatures when referring to Jews as they do for Arabs.

Finally, the position of Arabs in France is quite similar to the treatment of blacks in the US. They often live in segregated areas and are subject to employment discrimination and accusations of not being truly French. Mme. Le Pen frequently refers to Arabs as not possessing the essential character of the Republic. Code for non-white.
