DC Comics To Switch The Sexual Orientation Of An Established Character
One question asked at the DC panel today at Kapow, was about Dans interview with The Advocate in the USA. Specifically over the decision not to change any characters sexual orientation when relaunching the DC Universe. At the time Dan stated they would introduce new LGBT characters rather than switch orientation, but the question asked why DC would switch race, size, age, all sorts of identifying features, but not orientation.
Surprisingly, DiDio stated that they had changed DCs policy in this regard. And they ae about to reintroduce a previously existing DC character who was previously straight and now will be one of our most prominent gay characters.
As Bob Wayne explained that, just like the President of the United States, the co-publishers policy on this has evolved.
And despite his best efforts to stem Dan, we also got the very strong impression that the death of Superman on Earth Two many not have been as final as portrayed

(3,310 posts)Be still my twelve-year-old heart. Lord I remember (believe it or not, yes, I remember the last Ice Age LOL) reading those comics, wishing that just one, any one of those heroes liked guys too.

(16,862 posts)Thinking that I wished one of them would come and whisk me away. I used to have huge crushes on may comic book characters. Favorites: Robin, Kid Flash, Beast Boy (I don't know why Gar Logan appealed to me so much, he was just SO cute) and Aquaman. (Admittedly Aquaman and Gar also appealed to my love of all things feather and fin. I figured there was so much they could teach me...and Beast Boy is vegan so that's a plus.)

(3,310 posts)And Aquaman.
There's a drawing I keep in my bedroom done in ink and pastels of Batman and Robin in a half-nude tight hug and deep kiss. Totally hot. No bits showing, just sexy for the subjects. I don't remember the artist's name right off the top of my head, but I'd love to see more of his work. (I'm too lazy to get up and look at it ATM.)
The art I have I certainly wouldn't call homoerotic, but it's definitely homocentric.

(1,364 posts)Had two friends who both worked at American Greetings. They had fashioned an entire collection of Batman, Robin and Superman in homoerotic positions. It was incredible stuff and should have hung in a museum. Large full-color drawings about 2'x4'. Wonderful stuff. The one lover died of cancer. They were the first people I knew that tried acid. This would've been about '67 or '68. The surviving lover got heavy into the leather scene when it was very outre.

(3,310 posts)I have a J Wayne practice piece his partner gave me. John passed a while before I got to SoCal, but I knew his partner fairly well. His partner was crazy as cat-shit, but had some great photos of John. He was putting things out of the house and gave me an unfinished piece I really like. I have a lot of bar posters John drew the artwork for that I need to mat and chop frames for. (In my copious spare time, sigh.)
I have one of Seago's "Manscape" series I was given for a 25th birthday present (somewhere around the end of the Stone Age LOL)
Back in the 80's I was in Chicago. The leather scene there was outrageous. I had fun and it could be said I was fun hehehehe

(1,438 posts)I don't think they'll make Superman or Batman gay; DC is owned by Warner Brothers, and I'm guessing that WB won't let them make that drastic a change to characters that make them so much money in the movies.
Green Lantern? Bear in mind that there are a lot of different Green Lanterns, but the one with the most history (Hal Jordan) has always been something of a womanizer. The Flash has never been married in the revised continuity, but he does have a romantic relationship with a female co-worker.
If it's going to be a major character, that leaves Wonder Woman. An easy pick...until she came to "Man's World" she lived on an island populated by nothing but women, after all! And in the new continuity, while Steve Trevor is attracted to her those feelings have not been reciprocated. Hm....

Alan Scott, the Green Lantern of Earth-2.
Hm...not exactly a character the public at large will have much of a reaction to, other than "Who"?
