MINNESOTA: Catholic Church Denies Confirmation To Teen After Pro-Gay Marriage Facebook Post
A Catholic church in Minnesota denied confirmation to a 17 year-old student after seeing the above photo on his Facebook page.
The decision by the Rev. Gary LaMoine to deny the religious rite of passage for Lennon Cihak in mid-October shocked his mother, who said her son has gone to church every week and volunteered around the community in preparation for his confirmation this year. You kind of know the Catholic beliefs, but I never thought they would deny somebody confirmation because you werent 100 percent. I guess thats what shocks me, Shana Cihak said. Lennon said fellow students in his confirmation class liked the photo on Facebook, but they were still allowed to be confirmed. I just thought it was wrong to single him out, Shana said. Her husband, Doug Cihak, agreed. (LaMoine) was talking about God doesnt believe in this. Well, God created Lennon, said Doug, adding that he was baptized and raised in the same church. But now the family is not allowed to participate in Communion there, Doug said, and hes worried as to how far the sanctions will go, expressing concern about being able to be buried alongside his parents.

(18,470 posts)Like Jesus said in Matthew 23 they move heaven and Earth to win a single convert and make that person twice the son or daughter of hell that they already are. But people going in the other direction, not so much.

(146,317 posts)Our churches, for the most part are welcoming to everyone. But, the official Catholic Church here has a real problem, and it is hurting both the people they exclude and the church itself. They're still trying to figure out why the anti-marriage equality amendment that was supported by the Minnesota archdiocese was turned down by the voters. Instead of making changes in their thinking, they're doubling down.
It is a shame on them. Meanwhile, ELCA churches throughout Minnesota welcome LGBT Minnesotans. They will grow, while the Roman Catholic Church shrivels and dries up.
