Sullivan High School Students, Teacher Fighting For 'Traditional' Prom That Would Ban Gays

Let the haters go have their own hateful prom IMO. I'm really fed up with the haters in America, fuck them. And fuck the asshole teacher!!! And I'm fed up with the religious crackpots too.

A group of Indiana-based parents, teens and even a teacher is fighting for a separate "traditional" prom that would ban gay students.

As NBC 2/My Wabash Valley is reporting, special education teacher Diana Medley is defending a group of Sullivan High School students who are arguing in favor of the alternate prom.

"Homosexual students come to me with their problems, and I don't agree with them, but I care about them," Medley told the news station. "It's the same thing with my special needs kids; I think God puts everyone in our lives for a reason."

When asked whether or not gay people have a "purpose" in life, Medley added, "No, I honestly don't. Sorry, but I don't ... A gay person isn't going to come up and make some change unless it's to realize that it was a choice and they're choosing God."

If the homophobic students want a no-gays dance, they can have a non school sanctioned private party. I'm sure the Westboro Baptist Church would be willing to host.

People seem to think that highly religious people are intrinsically good/better. There have been horrendous crimes commited by highly religious people over the years. Some great, many small evils are covered by the highly religious cover.

Students and the principal at an Indiana high school are disavowing a campaign by parents to organize a "gay-free" prom.

Even the pastor of the church that hosted the original organizing meeting says the church doesn't back the effort to throw a straights-only prom for students at Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Ind., south of Terre Haute.

The movement began after Principal David Springer was asked to clarify whether same-sex couples would be allowed to take part in the traditional grand march before the prom, which is scheduled for April 27.

"Anybody can go to the prom," Springer told NBC station WTHR of Indianapolis. "Of course, a girl could go out with another girl if they didn't have a date or that was their choice."
