Now that the haters are on the defensive, all of a sudden, civil unions don't seem so bad to them. Too bad (for them) we're gonna take the whole thing and get marriage equality.
"A national momentum toward the acceptance of gay marriage is changing the tactics of Minnesota opponents.
With the imminent introduction of bills legalizing gay marriage, some Republicans are saying privately that they may counter with a call for less-sweeping legislation, such as recognition of civil unions or reciprocal benefits for couples.
Republican legislators are said to be considering the change in tactics, partly from personal conviction and partly as a response to the partys drubbing for its support of the marriage amendment."

(2,237 posts)I smell victory coming soon in Minnesota. That republican who endorsed it says there's others who secretly support gay marriage but have been hesitant to be the first republican in the legislature to come out in favor of it.

(8,462 posts)It's very good news. We had Republicans vote against the anti-gay marriage amendment, too. unfortunately they decided not to run again. The Republican party's alliance between social conservatives and "economic conservatives" is disintegrating. I hope the Democrats can hold onto the fascistic rural religious areas and get marriage equality passed. *catholics and lutherans*
