Therefore I ask: Do you stop to appreciate the fact the the LGBT community has always supported the straight community?

I never was looking for appreciation. I'm happy that prop 8 will finally be defeated.
Someone once asked me why I joined the Courage Campaign I honestly felt that I needed to help make space where people could be themselves. I'm wanting to read about your happiness if it is there because of this week.

I'm for equality. Not just since this week but my whole life. And I didn't 'came out' for it. There is no struggle nor anything special. Just common sense, humanity and compassion. Tiny things.

You make it sound like it's something very special. It's not. It's a fact. We're equal. If they came out only now, pity. Do they (don't forget that I'm straight) need applause for it? For standing up on simple equal rights that are written into your constitution? Cry me a river.

Don't get me wrong. If you worked for it, I'm thankful. If you think it was something so very special and exotic to work for that you need special praise for it, I'll tell you something right here: I'm European. If DOMA and Prop 8 will not be overturned, we'll make fun of you and call you a third world country that obviously only has total freedom for white, straight, christian males with financial benefits.

This is not personal. Thank you for working for it.

Perhaps your wording came off a bit twisted. You're speaking to people here being hurt for years, bullied and prosecuted, and your first post in this group is to ask how they, how we, think about the generous support from straight people.

Here's the answer, and I do not speak on anyone's else behalf here but myself: Where was that support years ago? Where was that support the first time Prop 8 came into play?

This isn't about making profile pics on facebook red.

Again, I thank you for supporting what is probably absolutely natural to you.

I've felt slightly queasy for most of the week whenever I've thought about the cases. Not that people standing up isn't a nice gesture, but, that's just the noise. I care about 9 people right now.

People like *you* helped make it happen. So: thanks. In some ways that work is the BEST work of all. You don't gain anything materially from it.

People like you are guided by a sense of justice. There's nothing better or more admirable than that.

Years of avoiding heterosexist behaviour and being kind to people who were not so kind actually paid off!

But now I get pissed at the "enemies", and the hell with em

People coming out was the trick. I was out since I was 15. Worth every aggravation and loss just to see how it is today.

Thank you upaloopa and all the straight folks! I'm grateful and delighted by all of it.

Please don't stop!
