why he lives in Brazil.

They post that attack over and over because it is a way to be homophobic without being so overtly hateful as to risk a ban.

And, of course, under the new system, anything is acceptable if it gets the stamp of approval from three random people who might be trolls straight from Freak Republic themselves.

So, to answer Puglover's question, it is okay to call gay men by women's names now on DU. Perfectly OK.

Gotta love those community standards!

They hate Greenwald. This is from 2011, conspiracy theory about DU's gay people and Greenwald, stood in GD for days until Earl ppr'd the OP.
"I have found out that Greenwald is Gay, and I know from a lot of posts here at DU that many of the LGBT community here at DU are disenchanted with Obama. I find that interesting, because all of the LGBT community outside of DU strongly - and I mean STRONGLY - support him! I have many friends and co-workers who are LGB ( I had two friends who were T in the past, but we have lost touch as happens so often with friends) and they are appalled at Greenwald’s portrayals of Obama’s policies...."

God, I love that woman! She's so incredibly smart.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=3129226

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

This person has repeatedly referred to Glen Greenwald as "GiGi" -- using a feminine name to refer to a gay man. I know that many people here do not like Glenn Greenwald, but we should not be referring to him in a way that could be construed as a slur on his sexual orientation. It makes our LGBT members feel unwelcome. Thank you for your time.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Jun 30, 2013, 08:40 AM, and the Jury voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: Another fake liberal using homophobic slurs to bash someone who doesn't toe their political line 100%. Refugee from the BOG? Or a HOF'er feeling the need to just bash another man? I don't care. I'm sick of it. It makes DU suck.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: I wondered who GiGi was and what the hell this alert was about until I read the explanation. The alerter is correct.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

Read "no explanation given" as "I'm afraid to justify my decision" when it comes to letting stuff stand.

homophobic. However this posters comments are crystal clear. Not one homophobic slur but 2 in one post.

Yes, "bugger" is a colloquial term for sodomy and that is not the most common meaning of the word. And had it been used alone I may have believed that it was innocuous. However coupled with the gleeful and repetitive "Gigi" it's a pretty logical leap to see what that poster is all about.

Gigi. Leslie Caron. Fun old film. SHE was a cute character. Glen Greenwald is a gay man. HIS name isn't Gigi. It's Greenwald. GG would be perfectly fine.

When I was a kid I was called a "fem" among many other gay slurs. It hurt. Alot. So when I see shite like this happening on DU I will speak out about it.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

Referring to a gay man by a woman's name seems more than a bit homophobic, esp. when the person doing it also refers to that same gay man as a "bugger" a few posts later. This is bigoted hate speech.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Jun 30, 2013, 03:25 PM, and the Jury voted 2-4 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Although this remark does not prove homophobia it is a bit inappropriate. A better choice would have been simply writing G.G. thereby closing the door to an alert. I vote this one ok. The 'bugger" post, however, should be separately considered for crossing the insensitivity line. Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given

Thank you very much...

I consider this ample proof that homophobes are prevalent on DU, and the jury system is a joke, because homophobes and misogynists are seldom rebuked.

What is wrong with that? My daughter's given name is Allison. Her nickname is Alli. Everyone is satisified with that. I sometimes call her AL myself when I am in a hurry, but then I also sometimes call her straight sister RAY (Rachael) too. Am I allowed to? I am saying NEITHER in a negative way. I am their Mom and love them both.

I guess it depends who is saying it and WHY.
