Some won't be happy until the Pope shows up in a speedo at the Gay Pride parade

This is a post on DU - and the jury let it stand

Racism and homophobia are part-and-parcel of the new DU.

I guess the freepers had to run somewhere when they got zotted.

I asked her the other day to post to GD an experience we had at a movie theatre; she was shocked at the right turn DU has taken since she was a regular here. I don't think she'll be back... she has other forums that engage her now that are more progressive. The DU she had once so enjoyed wouldn't have allowed some 350-400 proselytizing Pope threads to clog GD and LBN in just seven months. I don't think many here are aware this is even happening.

Every single post that had racist, homophobic, or misogynistic bullshit in it that I've alerted has been completely trounced upon by the jurors who don't even TRY to hide their own racist, homophobic, or misogynistic bullshit.

Things that would have NEVER been allowed to fly during the Bush reign seems perfectly fine and acceptable these days.

This site is becoming only steps away from "tea party underground" imo.

Insulting women, and women's rights? "Oh they shouldn't be so sensitive"
Calling Conservatives and Republicans "gay" (you know, since that's SUCH a terrible insult), and we should "have thicker skin"
Even racism is fine these days when I called out someone who was making fun of Asian names in a weak assed attempt at Humor, I got completely beaten up because I "have no sense of humor"

I'd supported the fund drives before, but now.. until this site gets it's act together I'd donate to the RNC before I donated here again.. at least those jackasses admit openly that they are my enemy, and I'd rather face the enemy I know than the one who weakly pretends to be my friend.

But I frankly don't see it as a hugely inappropriate response. In point of fact... aren't "speedos" at the Pride Parades almost a cliche at this point? We've even had huge "internal" debates here ( not recently, maybe) about whether or not the exhibitionistic elements in the Parades were promoting a progressive/healthy/accurate/useful public image for the lgbt community as a whole.

Can we blame straight people for absorbing the very image of lgbt life that a lot of us ( not me, btw) go out of our way every June to *promote*?

Come on, now.

It would make me happy. That said the Pope was and remains a hateful bigot and those that cheer him on are misguided or bigots themselves. The window dressing Pope machine rolls on.

He'd have a reason to wear those gaudy shoes his predecessor loved. I'd skip the Speedo though. Probably a little too much.
