The anchor of Russia's most popular news program appeared on a competing, Kremlin-controlled show to air his personal views on gay people and they were horrible.
Speaking on Russia 1, which is influenced by the Russian government, Dmitri Kisilev said Russia's law against "gay propaganda" doesn't go far enough.
"I think that just imposing fines on gays for homosexual propaganda among teenagers is not enough. They should be banned from donating blood, sperm. And their hearts, in case of the automobile accident, should be buried in the ground or burned as unsuitable for the continuation of life."

(19,964 posts)I think I'm going to take a recess from GD for a while. Way too much homophobia going on over there. I've never seen it this bad.

(9,288 posts)Those people are so obsessed over that Snowden idiot that they assume ANY criticism of Russia HAS to be about snowden.
I don't give a shit about him. I have avoided almost every thread on the issue.
HOWEVER, I do care equal rights for everyone. Marriage equality and equal rights are my top issues.
Russia is a hate filled cesspool that is going to be hosting the biggest international event in the world...the perfect chance for people to stand up for all the LGBT community of Russia who have lost the right to even speak up on their own behalf.
Not only that, they are threatening to arrest and oppress OUR citizens. This should inflame every single liberal, progressive, and civil libertarian in the entire country.
But rather than discuss that they want to derail threads on the very real issue of homophobia in Russia so they can continue bitching about Snowden.

(7,886 posts)Plus one more. This is a great way to get some political opponents out of the way, let it out that they are gay and you can disappear them with out much trouble.
Even the most homophobic doubters should be able to see that little detail.

(649 posts)How could you assume being gay is a "lifestyle choice", unless you yourself see it as one? When I hear these right-wing religious homophobes say "being gay is a choice" I must conclude that to them they could go either way. The most homophobic are likely conflicted gays in denial,. they lash out at others as they see a "sin" in their own minds. Once again, religion is a big blame here,. . faith is a terribly destructive force.
Anyway, something must be done about this Russian degenerating situation, the beatings, and "corrective rapes", are atrocities, and human rights violations. Like all governments, the way to their policy is to hit them in the pocket book,. I have already stopped buying Russian caviar and vodka, and I am open to suggestions on influencing this disgusting trend in russian culture. Just let people be themselves and live your own lives haters,. If you don't think gayness is good, don't have sex with people of the same sex, but what do other peoples activities do have to do with you?

(9,766 posts)The only "choice" , is whether to remain in the closet or be openly who one is.
Even here. Even on DU,( Even recently!) members have minimized discrimination against gays , by suggesting that gays can pretend to be straight so as to avoid discrimination.
When someone describes homosexuality as a "lifestyle", this is what they are suggesting.
