I am this close to trying to find a way to ban a person from posting here who doesn't even post here

The absolutely filthy transphobia in regards to Chelsea Manning is out of control. I just alerted a post, by someone with a grand total of 7 posts, who compared Manning to corporal Klinger from MASH and the use of proper pronouns to school house rock. I was the second alterter it was already adjudicated 1 to 5 to stay. What is so flipping hard about calling people by their proper names for the love of Christ.

I'm more concerned with the high post-count DUers who couch their polite homophobia so as to not (usually) go over the line that most jury members would be offended by.

Thankful that some of those have been axed lately.

I am so sick of the folks who repeatedly skate by. I posted a list in ATA of 7 posts by a single member, each insisting that until surgery Manning is a man, to make the point to the admins that there is a serious problem. I've been thinking of compiling a comprehenisve list of about a dozen long term members (and their posts) who are equally insistent (and mostly remaining unhidden), because it is clear that a majority vote on minority rights never ends well - and I'm tired of hearing that there really isn't a problem.

As to the ATA post - it is interesting to note that all but one of those posts have now been self-deleted. I guess I'll go check that out and see if there was enough of an awakening that I should modify the ATA post before it becomes public...

My batting average is pretty bad. I even got a 0-6 vote on a post which insisted that Manning was a man until he had surgery (and not the first post by that person). I've taken to putting links to prior nearly identical posts by the same poster in the alert - and am getting responses like:

  • pipi k is asserting their right to be a disrespectful transphobe. It's ignorant and narrow minded but unfortunately, not hide worthy.
  • Not hide-worthy IMO. Explaining a point of view, one that you and I might disagree with, but doing it civilly. (for suggesting that we use a "neutral" term like "IT" - the second time this poster had made this suggestion)
  • Alerter your an asshole use the fucking ignore button.
  • Alerts aren't meant to be done in aggregate either. The job of the jury is to judge the alerted post, not the history or personality of the poster, and judgement is not based on whether the juror disagrees with the content of the post. (linked to three nearly identical posts to show that mis-gendering Chelsea Manning was not an accident)
  • There is nothing in the DU rules about stupidity -- this OP shows that whoever wrote it is a fucking moron, but I have to vote to leave it. I don't see any violation here.

I guess 3-3, 4-2, or 5-1 leaves are better than 6-0, which takes me out of trying to clean the trans* bigotry out of the threads for 24 hours. But not much.

Anxiously awaiting the day when Skinner wakes up and has a response other than "For what it's worth, when I look at DU today, I see almost universal condemnation of transphobia, and I see almost universal support for treating transgendered people with respect." But not holding my breath.

GD is so full of insensitive and insulting language these days that the only thing you'll get for pointing it out is jumped on.

Sounds like you will be able to make your case. This way if said person makes an appearance, who every is around can act.
