by the pretty openly anti-gay atmosphere that prevailed during the 2007-2008 primary season and the early Obama years, the time of Donnie McClurkin and Rick Warren and "God is in the mix" and all that.

Things have improved a lot here for LGBT people, but for a while DU was not a very welcoming place, to put it mildly.

I was just a lurker at the time so I'm sure I didn't even see the half of it. I started reading here when I was in high school either 2001-2002, but I came and went through the years without joining in.

I thought she had created a site by the same name around that time (as an alternative), but I never did end up following it closely.

Anyhow, thanks for responding!

Obama 'evolved'. Now they echo is weak support, but back then it was brutal around here. A big time DUer told me then that gay people were no longer needed in the Party, we'd been replaced by the 'faith community' and 'Republicans who support Obama, known as Obamacans'. That DUer explained to me that Obama 'had to' do those events with Ex Gays and Hate Preachers to 'prove his bona fides to the faith community'.
Of course by 2012, 'Ex Gays' were Michelle Bachmann territory, but in 08 the OFA was heavy into gay bashing and crazed evangelists declaring war on gay folks and all that.
What ever happened to those 'Obamacans' anyway?

Most of the homophobes are still here, they all now pretend to be 'pro gay' because Obama is now 'pro gay' back then they were all about the Sanctity of Marriage because Obama would sneer at LGBT questions and say 'I'm a Christian, one man, one woman'.

sapphocrat

There was a newsblog/website and also a forum.

There are only a few people still around that were involved with it that I see post from time to time. I know she took it all down at some point. I don't know if it is archived somewhere on the internets.

I'm still around but sometimes feel like a disembodied spirit compared to the engaged poster that I was at one time.
